About this picture
Location of the Meußlitz district in Dresden

Meußlitz is a district in the southeast of the Saxon state capital Dresden . It is located in the suburbs of the same district , which to the municipality Leuben belongs.

geography

Meußlitz is ten kilometers southeast of Dresden city center, the inner old town , in the middle of the Elbe valley . Neighboring districts are the Dresden districts of Zschieren in the east, Kleinzschachwitz in the north, Großzschachwitz in the west and Sporbitz in the southwest. In the extreme south, the Heidenau district of Mügeln already borders on a very short section along the outer city limits of Dresden . The Meußlitz district belongs to the statistical district of Kleinzschachwitz .

The old village center is called Am Teich and is located on the north-eastern edge of an old and largely dry Elbe, which branches off from the Elbe opposite Birkwitz and together with it includes the districts of Zschieren, Meußlitz, Kleinzschachwitz and Laubegast , until it comes back to the real ones in Tolkewitz Elbwiesen meets. When the Elbe floods in 2002 , some parts of Meußlitz were flooded over this Elbarm. Opposite the street Am Teich , on the other side of the old Elbar, is Altsporbitz , the historic center of the former Meusslitz neighboring village of Sporbitz. In this area, the Elbarm is traversed by the Brüchigt- or Brüchichtgraben . The ground of Meußlitz consists of weakly loamy sand , which is also referred to by the street name Am Sand , and is thus in contrast to the clay soil in Sporbitz.

While the south-west of the district was largely kept free of buildings as a natural floodplain , there are several residential areas north and east of the town center that create a smooth transition to Kleinzschachwitz and Zschieren. The two most important streets in Meußlitz, which is off the main roads, are Struppener Strasse , which leads to Zschieren, and Meusslitzer Strasse, which runs in the direction of Kleinzschachwitz . A public means of transport that runs through Meußlitz is the bus route 65 of the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe . In neighboring Kleinzschachwitz there is also a connection to tram line 2 as well as bus lines 86 and 88, in neighboring Sporbitz there is also a connection to the S-Bahn via the Zschachwitz stop .

history

The village of Meußlitz was built as a round building and was equipped with a block corridor. The place name is of Sorbian origin and is derived from Mysl , the personal name of an Old Sorbian locator (from myslić , "to think"). Loosely translated, Meusslitz is therefore the place of Mysl or the thinker . It was first mentioned as Miselicz in 1350 . The place name then developed in the 15th century via Mißelicz , Mießlicz , Misselwitz and Mewselwitz to Meißlitz , which is mentioned in 1501 and is already very close to the current form. Around 1590 the place was called Meuselitz ; In 1791 the current spelling of the district appears for the first time. In the year 1875 the form Meißlitz also existed next to Meußlitz .

Village center "Am Teich"

Initially, Meußlitz, which comprised only a few farmsteads, was owned by the Saxon noble family von Körbitz until 1559 , for example by Melchior von Körbitz , who was lord of Meusegast in the mid-16th century . Johann Sigismund of Liebenau exercised in 1660 as owner of the manor Zehista the basic rule of; The village of Meußlitz remained attached to this manor until 1832. Administratively, it originally belonged to the Dresden district, but came to the office or later to the Pirna administration at the end of the 16th century . The location of the village near the end of the Kulmer Steig , which was often the scene of larger troop parades, had a disadvantageous effect . During the Thirty Years' War in 1634 some houses were destroyed by Kurbrandenburg troops; some of the land in question was still in desolation decades later . In the run-up to the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig , according to an inscription on a house in the village center, five estates and three houses in Meusslitz burned down; thus about half of the village was destroyed. However, some of the old farmhouses have been preserved; In the immediate vicinity of the village center, there are still some cottages and the old village inn, which used to be mockingly called Plump and is officially called that today.

Agriculture was the main activity in Meusslitz; rye , barley , oats and potatoes were mainly grown . However, since the soil is poorer in nutrients and drier than in the neighboring village of Sporbitz, no suitable pasture was found, which limited the possibilities for cattle breeding . Meusslitz was originally parish in Dohna ; From 1897 the Meußlitz residents together with Klein- and Großzschachwitz as well as Sporbitz and Zschieren formed the Zschachwitzer Stephanusgemeinde. The Meußlitz children went to the Kleinzschachwitz school until their own school building was completed in 1900, which today houses the 91st elementary school . In 1922, Meußlitz was incorporated into the community of Zschachwitz , which had arisen a year earlier , after a desired merger with Kleinzschachwitz and the resulting incorporation to Dresden had failed. Six years later, the community of Zschachwitz acquired a garden plot north of the Meusslitz village center, which had already been laid out in 1828, and had it converted into the Meusslitz People's Park . Between 1895 and 1925, many housing estates were built in Meußlitz for the workers of the Zschachwitz and Niedersedlitz companies, which drastically reduced the agricultural area and Meusslitz expanded far beyond its center. On July 1, 1950, Meußlitz was reclassified as part of Zschachwitz to Dresden . The village pond in the middle of the old village center called Am Teich lay dry after 1945 and was renatured after the fall of the Wall.
