Location of the Mockritz district in Dresden
Former Mockritz Inn

Mockritz is a district of Dresden in the Plauen district . Together with Kleinpestitz it forms the statistical district of Kleinpestitz / Mockritz .

location

Mockritz is in the south of the city on the outskirts. In the north Mockritz is delimited by Zschertnitz and Strehlen , in the east by Gostritz and Leubnitz-Neuostra , in the south by the municipality of Bannewitz and in the west by Kaitz and Kleinpestitz .

Mockritz is located on the edge of the Dresden Elbe valley in the valley of the Kaitzbach and Nöthnitzbach , a small tributary of the Kaitzbach.

One of the oldest settlements north of the Ore Mountains was created here by the linear ceramicists.

history

In the well-preserved village center, Mockritz is still recognizable today as an originally Slavic Rundling . The name is also obviously of Sorbian origin, mokry means damp, wet in Sorbian and other Slavic languages .

Mockritz was first mentioned in 1350 as Mokerus and a few years later it was under the parish of the Kreuzkirche in Dresden. In addition to the water mills in the valley, agriculture dominated in Mockritz through arable farming. Mockritz was partly owned by the citizens of Dresden and partly owned by the Meissen Cathedral . In 1921 Mockritz was incorporated into Dresden and survived the Second World War without major damage.

Mockritz has a village center where farms from the 18th century and mills have been preserved. The dammed mint pond for these mills was converted into a natural swimming pool, which is still in operation today. The pond was created in 1621 for the operation of the Dresden Mint on the left bank of the Elbe below the Augustus Bridge in Dresden. The minting operation was supplied with water from the Kaitzbach . The pond was used, among other things, to regulate the water requirement for coin operation.

As a result of industrialization, the loose suburban development typical of Dresden with rental houses and small villas also emerged in Mockritz.
