Wachwitz is about seven and a half kilometers upstream of Dresden city center between Loschwitz and Niederpoyritz on the slope of the Elbe. The Wachwitzbach and the Pillnitzer Landstrasse ( Staatsstrasse 167) run through Wachwitz . As one of the old fishing villages on the Elbe, it was part of the Dresden Elbe Valley World Heritage Site from 2004 until the World Heritage title was withdrawn in 2009 . On the other side of the Elbe are Tolkewitz and Laubegast Wachwitz.
history
The Wachwitz settlement was once founded on the rubble cone of the Wachwitzbach, which flows into the Elbe. In 1350 Wachwitz was first mentioned as "wachwicz" in the feudal book of Friedrich des Strengen . In the 19th century, manufacturers, state officials, painters and poets settled here (especially on former vineyards). The Royal Vineyard of Dresden-Wachwitz was built in 1824. In 1893 the lower castle was built in place of the previous summer villa. The upper Wachwitz Castle, visible from afar , was built between 1934 and 1936. On March 23, 1839, the first election of a community board took place, which from 1901 carried the title of mayor . In 1901, the municipal office was opened, which was used as such until it was incorporated in 1930, after which it was a post office and is now a private residence.
