About this picture
Location of the Trachenberge district in Dresden

Trachenberge is a district of Dresden and is located in the northwest of the city in the district of Pieschen . The previously independent municipality was incorporated into Dresden in 1897. Trachenberge, together with the northern part of Pieschen, form the statistical district of Pieschen-Nord / Trachenberge .

Trachenberg was settled late and was cultivated with vines by Dresden citizens. The Wilder Mann district is on the border with Trachau .

history

In contrast to most of the surrounding villages, the Trachenberge municipality on the right bank of the Elbe is not of Sorbian origin. Trachenberge is a settlement built in the 18th century, which only became an independent municipality in 1812 . The starting point of the settlement was viticulture on the Trachenberg, which the Altendresdner Augustinians operated on the Trachauer Flur. The vineyard was between today's Grossenhainer Strasse and the Schützenhof . Around 1670 there were vineyards on all the slopes between Geblerstrasse and Radeburger Strasse.

The development that began after 1800 resulted in a scattered settlement. With the arrival of new professional groups in 1861, only 50 of the 259 inhabitants were employed in agriculture. In 1873 the municipal orphanage was moved to the Radeburger Strasse / Marienhofstrasse / Hellerhofstrasse area. The Hellerhof founded a non-profit community in 1894 that wanted to reduce child mortality by administering donkey milk . Other charitable institutions emerged, such as the Saxon Krüppelheim at Weinbergstrasse 54 and the Maria Anna Children's Hospital at Weinbergstrasse 52. In 1876, a school was founded at Döbelner Strasse 8-10. From 1881 the Dresden horse tram ran from the Wilder Mann to Albertplatz . The electric tram was set up in 1909 between the Wilden Mann and Räcknitz .

In the 19th century, the Trachenberger Flur consisted of a narrow strip between Hellerhofstrasse and Döbelner Strasse, which in 1915 extended to Großenhainer Strasse.

Trachenberge belonged to the parish of Kaditz . In 1884 it was parish with Pieschen and formed the St. Mark's parish . Trachenberge separated from the Pieschener community and formed the Weinbergskirch community from 1915 onwards . In 1897 Trachenberge was incorporated into Dresden. In 1936, barracks were set up in Hellerhofstrasse in which SS troops were trained. During the Second World War, camps for Soviet forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners were built not far from here. The inmates had to work in the Goehle factory . During the GDR era, a block of flats was built north of Großenhainer Strasse and Weinbergstrasse.

Culture and sights

The vineyard church was built in 1930 as a half-timbered building. After it burned down in 1946, a bell tower was built in 1950 and a new church building in 1958.
