Kaditz lies between the Elbe, Leipziger Strasse and the city of Radebeul . The place is north of Lommatzscher Strasse and west of Washingtonstrasse .

history

Kaditz was first mentioned in 1269 as Kayticz , this Slavic place name is derived from people of a Kojeta . The place was laid out as a street green village with a corridor and consisted of six courtyards. The original corridor was between today's Altkaditz and Riegelplatz. In the 14th century, Kaditz took over the corridor of the deserted village of Gleina , Gleina was east of Riegelplatz. The Episcopal- Meissnian Vorwerk Poppewitz or Poppitz was dissolved in the 15th century and acquired by the Kaditzers no later than the 15th century. Poppewitz consisted of two taverns and was located in Kleinkaditz north of the village. After a plague in neighboring Übigau , Kaditz grew beyond today's Scharfenberger Straße, the old Bischofsweg, out to the Elbe. The Kaditzer Flur grew to a size of 495 hectares. The areas on the Elbe were threatened by flooding and served as pastureland. To counteract the fragmentation of the economy, the succession was set to the youngest son in 1635. The place, the size of which was between 300 and 400 inhabitants, was shaped by Sorbs for a long time.

In the 18th century, craftsmen moved to the place that was under the electoral office of Dresden . Until the end of the 18th century, the Leipziger Chaussee led close to the village to Serkowitz . The Kaditz Parish included up to nine villages, including Trachau and Pieschen . In the 19th century, the parish was divided due to the increase in population. Kaditz was destroyed by fire in 1818. In 1854 a school building was built opposite the church in Kaditz .

The industrialization recognized only Neukaditz in Kaditz. This district was built on today's Rankestrasse after 1875 and consisted of workers' houses. The population rose to 3780 at the turn of the century. During this time, blocks of houses were built on Riegelplatz. After the First World War, small housing estates were built between Kötzschenbrodaer and Gleinaer Straße without any structural connection to the village center. In 1903 Kaditz was incorporated into Dresden. From 1918 to 1921 unemployed people in emergency work built the Kaditz flood channel in an old arm of the Elbe to drain the flood.

In August 2002, Kaditz was trapped by the Elbe flood of the century .

  • The "village center Altkaditz" has been preserved as a whole and is a listed building. It consists of half-timbered houses and courtyards with arbor galleries as well as the rectory from 1668. The houses with the gable facing the street were rebuilt after the fire of 1818.
  • The Emmauskirche was first mentioned in 1273 as Laurentiuskirche. In 1904 it was renamed the Emmaus Church. The places Übigau and Mickten belong to the parish .
  • The Kaditzer linden tree stands in the walled churchyard of the Emmaus church. With an estimated age of 700 to 900 years, this former judicial linden tree is proven to be the oldest tree in Dresden.

The association “New Neighborhood Kaditz e. V. “takes care of the district's concerns.

Economy and Infrastructure

Location of the Kaditz airfield in today's urban area

Between 1913 and 1926 there was a Dresden-Kaditz airfield in Kaditz , which was initially used for airships . A hall for two airships was created. The aviation pioneer Hermann Reichelt used the space for aircraft production and test flights. He had a fatal accident here during a demonstration in 1914. During the First World War, the square was used for military purposes, then for airmail traffic. As a result of a lack of capital and the provisions of the Versailles Treaty to restrict air traffic, the site was given up in 1926 and the site was used for industrial settlements and allotments, among other things.

In the GDR era, the early vegetable fields in Kaditz mainly supplied West Berlin . A sewage treatment plant built by Hans Erlwein in 1911 is located in Kaditz .

After 1990 the Elbe-Park shopping center was built in Kaditz .

The Kaditz Elbe Bridge was built in 1930 on the Übigauer Flur to develop a planned industrial area. In Kaditz there are tram lines 9 and 13 and bus lines 64, 70, 72, 79 and 80 of the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe , as well as line 476 of the Meißen transport company .

Gleina desert

On the Kaditz corridors there are Gleina and Poppewitz, several devastations .

The village of Gleina on the Seewiesen between Radebeul , Kaditz and Trachau , which is subordinate to the Meißner cathedral chapter , was mentioned for the first time in 1303, and there is also evidence from 1350. Around 1400 Gleina was abandoned as a place, but was mentioned as a desert until the middle of the 16th century .

In 1529, according to Karlheinz Blaschke's historical register of Saxony, Gleina is described as a hallway with 7 hooves, in 1589 4  possessed men (Hüfner) settled there.

Later the corridor was distributed to the surrounding villages, mainly to Kaditz, parts also to Radebeul. Today the Gleinaer Straße in Kaditz still reminds of the former village.
