Carl Robert Croll (born November 21, 1800 in Kaditz near Dresden , Saxony , † November 3, 1863 in Prague , Bohemia ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

Carl Robert Croll learned painting as did his brother Georg Heinrich Crola at the Dresden Academy with Johan Christian Clausen Dahl and Caspar David Friedrich .

From 1824 he lived and worked in the Bohemian town of Teplitz , but often went to the painting school in Meißen to improve his skills with Ludwig Richter, who was now a teacher there .

In 1825, the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III , who was not very artistic, promoted . Croll with a commission for a bohemian picture cycle, which was connected with a generous fee. This also paved the way for Croll to join the Saxon Art Association .

In 1844 Croll moved to Prague, where he died in November 1863.

Carl Robert Croll especially painted romantic landscapes and cityscapes in Saxony , Bavaria and especially in Northern Bohemia. These works, created with great attention to detail, are of inestimable value today, especially for preservationists in the Czech Republic.

Croll's paintings and copperplate engravings can be found in the New Masters Gallery of the Dresden State Art Collections and in various museums in the Czech Republic.
