List of devastations in Dresden

The list contains devastations that are located in the urban area of Dresden . These are settlements that no longer exist for various, often unexplained reasons.

Overview

In the 109 districts that belong to the Saxon state capital Dresden , around 80 historic village centers have been preserved. The village centers of the other districts were newly built, but often still exist at least as a street. Still other village centers, deserted villages were already abandoned in earlier times and disappeared over the years to be built without back, sometimes they were built over only recently.

About 20 deserted areas in the Dresden city area are still known. An above-average number of them are located in the Dresden suburbs on the left bank of the Elbe . This is partly due to its proximity to the Elbe - Rostagk and Wernten were likely abandoned after a flood in the early 15th century. Another reason is the expansion of Dresden, the council of which, for example, bought the Auswik Vorwerk and distributed its corridors to Dresden citizens and farmers from neighboring villages so that the buildings were no longer needed. However, their contribution was made in February 1945 by the devastating air raids on Dresden , after which large parts of the suburbs were rebuilt and old structures were built over, which is why the remains of Fischersdorf and Poppitz disappeared.

In the rest of Dresden's urban area, economic considerations probably played the most important role in the abandonment of villages. The village community found the fields to be not productive enough or a landlord ordered the resettlement.
