Birkwitz is a district of Pirna , the district town of the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district . Together with Pratzschwitz , it forms the village of Birkwitz-Pratzschwitz .
geography
Birkwitz is located in the Elbe valley , directly on the orographic right bank of the Elbe in the northwest of the city. Neighboring districts are Pratzschwitz in the southeast and Graupa in the northeast. The Dresden districts of Pillnitz and Söbrigen border in the north . On the other side of the Elbe Dresden are Zschieren in the northwest, Heidenau south to the southwest and the likewise Heidenau belonging Mügeln . The gravel and bathing lake Birkwitz is located southeast of the village .
history
Birkwitz was first mentioned in 1350 as "Birkwicz". Later the spellings “Berkewicz”, “Birckewicz” and “Pirkewitz” were used. The village center is a circular hamlet that has expanded considerably over the centuries . Around him was a corridor which in 1900 had an area of about 269 hectares.
In 1547, the residents of the village were liable to pay taxes to the parish or hospital of Dohna . From the 17th century the owners of practicing manor in Schonfeld , the basic rule out. The administration of the place was incumbent on the Dresden office from the 16th century, in 1856 the Pirna court office was responsible. On the basis of the rural community code of 1838 , Birkwitz gained independence as a rural community. On May 1, 1973 the community merged with its neighboring town to form the new Birkwitz-Pratzschwitz community, which was incorporated into Pirna on January 1, 1999 .
