Krietzschwitz has been a district of Pirna since 1974 and is located on the federal highway 172 between Pirna and Königstein , where the country road (Hohe Straße) branches off to Langenhennersdorf in the Bielatal .
The small town was first mentioned in a document in 1359 . In addition to agriculture, its location directly on the trade route to Bohemia made it a stopover for merchants, iron and ore transports.
A monument to the general Duke Eugen von Württemberg (1788–1857), who managed to stop the Napoleonic troops here in August 1813 , is worth seeing . This event is known as the Battle of Krietzschwitz .
