Birkwitz-Pratzschwitz is a town in the city of Pirna in Saxony , which emerged in 1973 from the merger of the villages of Birkwitz and Pratzschwitz . The place has about 1400 inhabitants.

The village borders in the northwest on the Dresden districts of Pillnitz and Söbrigen .

history

Flint fragments found in the Pratzschwitz corridor indicate early settlement. The first documentary mention took place in 1350 as Birkwicz or Prautschicz . From the 17th century belonged to both places manorial manor Schoenfeld while Birkwitz the parish previously Dohna , Pratzschwitz the cathedral chapter Meissen was or were under the manor Pratzschwitz. After 1856 they belonged to the court office or to Amtshauptmannschaft Pirna. On May 1, 1973, the new community was created through the merger of the previous communities of Birkwitz and Pratzschwitz. On January 1, 1999, Birkwitz-Pratzschwitz was incorporated into the city of Pirna.

Between the two places there is a flooded gravel pit , about 70 hectares in size , which was opened in 1971, but has largely been released from mountain supervision and is used for swimming.
