Frank , also Franck , is a male given name in German, French, English and many other languages.

Origin and meaning

"Frank" is derived from the Old High German name Franko , which in turn goes back to the tribal name of the Franks . The meaning of franko is originally “the Franconian”, from frank for “free”, “brave”.

Possibly the Franks were named after their characteristic weapon, the Francisca ( lat. Securis francisca ), a kind of throwing ax.
