Frank Ebert (born March 18, 1970 in Halle an der Saale ) is a German civil rights activist. He was a GDR opposition activist and co-founder of the archive of the GDR opposition.

Life

Frank Ebert grew up in Halle and Berlin-Marzahn. After attending school, he began an apprenticeship as a machine tool fitter in Berlin.

Through his sister he had contacts with the Halle and Jenens opposition scene during his youth. During his apprenticeship in 1988, he left the FDJ and joined the Berlin Environmental Library . There he participated in the reproduction of illegal samizdat publications such as the Umweltbl Blätter and the Ark Nova . In May 1989, Frank Ebert took part in the protests aimed at falsifying local elections. He also demonstrated against the crackdown on student protests in China and co-organized the vigil at Gethsemane Church . He was arrested several times and prevented from completing his apprenticeship.

In September 1990 Ebert was one of the co-occupiers of the Stasi headquarters in Berlin-Lichtenberg . The founding of the Matthias Domaschk archive of the GDR opposition was largely due to Ebert. It was transferred to the Robert Havemann Society in 1993 , where Ebert still works today. He was involved in the implementation of the exhibition on the 20th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution on Alexanderplatz and the light border in Berlin on the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. He organized the installation of steles in important locations of the Peaceful Revolution in Berlin. In 2015 Frank Ebert received the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin .
