Frank Wörndl (born June 28, 1959 in Sonthofen ) is a former German ski racer .

biography

In his career, Wörndl did not win a single World Cup race. But in 1987 in Crans-Montana he became world champion in slalom . At the Olympic Games in 1988 he was able to build on his success, he won silver in the slalom in Calgary , where he even led after the first run and was only beaten by Alberto Tomba by 0.06 seconds . However, his career seemed to be over as a 15-year-old when he shot over the finish line into a parking lot after an FIS slalom, crashed into a car and broke his left thigh. Since then, his left leg has been almost 3 cm shorter. Between 1979 and 1985 Wörndl won five German championships , four of them in slalom and one in giant slalom.

For winning the silver medal at the Olympic Winter Games in 1988 he received - like all German medalists - the silver laurel leaf .

After his career, Frank Wörndl became a television commentator for ZDF and Eurosport . Since 2007 he has been running the Get Fit sports studio in Sonthofen. Frank Wörndl has also been active in music since 2011. His après-ski hit "Let's go - skiing is passion" was launched in winter 2011.
