Frank Plasberg (born May 18, 1957 in Remscheid ) is a German journalist and television presenter .

Life

Frank Plasberg grew up in the Wermelskirchen district of Tente and gained his first journalistic experience there. He sees Wermelskirchen as his hometown: In 2003 he said in an edition of the Montalk on the radio station WDR 2 that he was only born in Remscheid , “because Wermelskirchen didn't have a hospital at that time”.

Plasberg was married to the WDR presenter Angela Maas and has a daughter with her. He has been living with TV presenter Anne Gesthuysen since July 2007 . A son was born in January 2011 and they got married in August 2012.

Professional background

As a schoolboy he was already writing as a freelance journalist for the Rheinische Post , which is published in Wermelskirchen as the Bergische Morgenpost . In 1975, after graduating from high school , he completed his traineeship at the Schwäbische Zeitung in Leutkirch im Allgäu and later was a police reporter and editor of the Münchner Abendzeitung . In the show Zimmer frei! Plasberg said that he found this work stressful and that friends who were studying at the time envied their free time. In 1980 he began studying theater studies , politics and education in Cologne , which he broke off after 17 semesters. He started his first radio show on SWF3 in the same year.

From 1987 to 2002, Plasberg and Christine Westermann hosted the WDR broadcast current hour , for which he was also responsible as editor-in-chief from 1993. In 1988, while Gladbeck was being taken hostage , like other journalists, he conducted interviews with the hostage-takers - behavior that was later condemned by the German press council . The editor in charge in the studio decided not to broadcast the interview. Plasberg himself declared in 2003 that he had not done anything wrong as a young reporter, but would not behave like that again. Since 2001 Plasberg has moderated the political talk show tough but fair on WDR television. Since October 24, 2007, it has been broadcast on Das Erste . In September 2005, together with the producer Jürgen Schulte, he founded the company Ansager und Schnipselmann GmbH & Co KG , which is based in Düsseldorf and, among other things, produces hard but fair . Together with Jörg Schönenborn , Plasberg moderated the 2005 , 2010 , 2012 and 2017 state elections for North Rhine-Westphalia in the first.

On September 13, 2009, together with Maybrit Illner , Peter Kloeppel and Peter Limbourg , he hosted the television duel for the 2009 Bundestag election on five channels ( Das Erste , ZDF , RTL , Sat.1 and Phoenix ).

He had a guest role in the film Guardian Angel , which was produced by Til Schweiger in 2012. In the film adaptation of the novel He's Again (2015), Plasberg played himself.
