Paarduell was an evening broadcast on ARD and produced by Frank Plasberg's company Ansager & Schnipselmann and Jörg Pilawa's company Herr P. GmbH . The first season of the moderated Pilawa quiz show was on weekdays from 22 February to 24 March 2016 at 18:00 in the first broadcast. From April 21, 2017, the broadcast of a second season with 44 new episodes and two XXL editions began.
In the show, Frank Plasberg and his wife Anne Gesthuysen competed against other couples, where they had to answer questions from the subjects of world affairs, politics, sport and the boulevard. The challenger pairs are either celebrities or “normal” couples with an interesting story.
procedure
Each shipment followed the same process. It started with the so-called hail of questions in which each couple took turns answering as many questions as possible within a minute. Each correctly answered question was valued at 100 euros. There were two subject areas to choose from for the guest couple, Gesthuysen and Plasberg then each had to play the other.
This was followed by mode 1 out of 3 , a classic multiple choice quiz. The pairs of candidates each had ten seconds to decide on an answer option and to enter it. Each correct answer here gave 200 euros.
This was followed by the so-called buzzer round . Here, the pairs of candidates were shown videos of children who, depending on the episode, represented different things. So there were, for example, in episode 26 replayed films that had to be guessed. When the buzzer was pressed, playback stopped and an answer had to be given. If this was wrong, the other couple had the opportunity to watch the end of the video and then provide an answer. One correct answer was 300 euros.
The final followed, in which the couples were divided. Two subject areas were named which had to be evaluated. There were 2,000 euros each that had to be distributed and then given the correct answer to the question will be awarded accordingly. These 2,000 euros were independent of the amount earned up to then. The money won was then added to the other sum and the winner was determined accordingly.

The highest number of viewers reached Pilawas show with the first episode, which was broadcast on February 22, 2016. This brought the station a market share of 12.1 percent. 2.51 million people saw the start of the program.
The 26 episodes of the first season of the couple duel achieved an average viewer number of 2.25 million. This corresponded to a market share of 11.3 percent. The format thus almost reached the broadcaster average, which is 11.6 percent. The previous evening was particularly noticeable because of the poor performance among audiences between 14 and 49 years of age. Here the quiz could only inspire an average of 0.28 million viewers. With a market share of 4.9 percent, the couple duel was well behind the broadcaster average.
The XXL edition broadcast on March 5, 2016 reached 4.82 million viewers. The show brought the first a market share of 16.2 percent. In the target group, this was 8.1 percent. 0.84 million people watched the broadcast moderated by Jörg Pilawa. This made the XXL edition broadcast in the evening more successful than the other episodes that ran on the station's evening program.
The second season, which was broadcast from April 21, 2017 to June 30, 2017, was watched by an average of 1.75 million viewers. This made a market share of 11.3 percent, whereby the market share of the first season could be maintained.
The XXL edition on April 22, 2017 achieved a market share of 13.4 percent with 3.87 million viewers. On June 17, 2017, 3.81 million viewers saw the XXL edition, which corresponded to a market share of 15.4 percent.
Special occurrences
- In the broadcast on March 1, 2016, Thomas Eberle proposed to his girlfriend Katja Ackermann.
- Before the program was recorded on March 2, 2016, a "special episode" was broadcast for Understand You Fun? produced. The victims were Frank Plasberg and Anne Gesthuysen.
- In the edition of March 16, 2016, there was a tie of € 4,800 for both teams, which is why the jackpot of € 21,000 was split and both teams received € 12,900 each. On May 8, 2017, the jackpot was split again due to a tie so that each team received € 2,200. The same happened on June 19, 2017 when both teams won € 5,700.
