William "Bill" Mockridge (born July 28, 1947 in Toronto ) is a Canadian actor and cabaret artist living in Germany . He is the founder of the Bonn Jumping Mouse Theater. He became known to a wide audience through his portrayal of Erich Schiller in the WDR series Lindenstrasse .

biography

After dropping out of school, Mockridge completed an acting training at the National Theater School of Canada in Montreal from 1963 to 1966 . First engagements followed at the Manitoba Theater Center and 1968/69 at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Stratford . During a tour of Germany in 1970, he was so enthusiastic about the possibilities of German theater that he decided to work in Germany from now on. He first worked as an assistant director at the Ulmer Theater , where he had his first engagement at a German theater between 1971 and 1973. Further engagements followed at the Stadttheater Heidelberg (1973–1978), the Basler Theater (1978–1980) and the Schauspiel Bonn (1980–1987).

In 1982 he founded the Springmaus improvisation theater in Bonn , where he can also be seen with his own solo programs. He became known to a wide audience as Erich Schiller in the ARD series Lindenstrasse , which he played from September 1991 to December 2015 (episode 301–1559). In 2011 he made a guest appearance in the comedy series Pastewka .

In 2012 Mockridge published his book Je oller, je doller: How to get old correctly . In it he humorously deals with growing old. In 2015 he moderated the Golden Internet Prize for Seniors in Berlin , where pioneering online projects under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of the Interior are recognized. Bill is now moderating the TV show Murder with Announcement .

Private

Bill Mockridge grew up as an adopted child, is married to the actress Margie Kinsky and lives in the Bonn district of Endenich . The couple has six sons who all have dual citizenship (Italian and Canadian) and work in creative professions; including Matthew , Luke and Jeremy Mockridge .
