Endeich is a district in the west of the federal city of Bonn with around 12,500 inhabitants and belongs to the city ​​district of Bonn .

Endeich borders in the west with the Meßdorfer Feld on Lessenich / Meßdorf , in the northwest on Dransdorf , in the north on Nordstadt and Weststadt , in the east on Poppelsdorf and in the south on Lengsdorf and Duisdorf . The village Endeich was founded in the 8th century AD, first mentioned on April 5, 804: Villa quae vocatur Antiniche (in the village called "Antiniche" (Endsich)) after a wealthy Roman named Rungus the Cassius -Stift had two acres of farmland in Antiniche including a church and a few precious objects donated. Endeich Castle dates from the Middle Ages .

Endenich belonged country wonderfully for Electorate of Cologne and was named the glory Endenich (also Poppelsdorf called) in the Electoral Cologne Oberamt Bonn , which was owned by the Bonner Cassius-pin. The rule comprised the towns of Endenich, Ippendorf and Poppelsdorf. After the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken over by French revolutionary troops (1794) and the French administrative structures were introduced (until 1798) Endenich belonged to the Mairie Poppelsdorf in the canton of Bonn external . After 1941, the monastery "For Eternal Adoration" was used as an interim storage facility for the mass transports of Bonn Jews to the extermination camps as part of the Holocaust .

In 2004 Endeich celebrated its 1200th anniversary.

Culture and sights

The improvisation ensemble Die Springmaus , founded by Bill Mockridge , has its home in Endenich. Well-known comedians such as Bernhard Hoëcker , Christoph Schunck , Maximilian Osterritter , Dirk Bach and Bastian Pastewka , but also the Piccolo puppet shows , for example, have started their road to success from here.

The House of Springmaus heard how the music club harmony , the Rex cinema and theater in the ballroom for Endenicher culture mile in Frongasse.

The composer Robert Schumann spent the last two years of his life in the "Richarz'schen Heilanstalt" in what was then Magdalenenstrasse (today Sebastianstrasse). The building is now a memorial ( Schumannhaus Bonn ) and is used as a museum and music library.
