Location of the district Lengsdorf in Bonn district Hardtberg

Lengsdorf is a district of the federal city of Bonn in the Hardtberg district with 7000 inhabitants, which corresponds to about 1.5 percent of Bonn's population.

history

Lengsdorf was first mentioned in the 9th century and for many centuries lived mainly from viticulture . On August 1, 1969, the previously independent community of Lengsdorf was incorporated into Bonn. The Lengsdorf district within the boundaries of the former community still exists today. The local history museum in Lengsdorf describes the history of the district in exhibitions, lectures and excursions.

Infrastructure

In addition to the Kreuzbergschule community elementary school, two kindergartens and several day-care centers , Lengsdorf has a Roman Catholic church, a club house that was built jointly by the local associations and a community center affiliated to the Roman Catholic Church.

Other public facilities are a Catholic public library and a youth center . With the Mühlenbach house, there is still a private facility for elderly care.

Lengsdorf also has many clubs, including sports and home clubs, which are organized in the Lengsdorf Local Festival Committee.

Lengsdorf is the location of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief , the Federal Agency for Technical Relief and Telekom MobilitySolutions (DeTeFleetServices GmbH) . There are a total of around 2,200 jobs in Lengsdorf.

Rectory

The rectory was rebuilt between 1887 and 1888 as a replacement for a previous building.

The former village school

The former village school, built in 1836, now houses the Lengsdorf Local History Museum.

Events

Annual highlights of village life are the carnival procession, the Corpus Christi procession, the fair in August, the “junk tournament” and the wine festival. In Lengsdorf there is also a St. Martin's procession every year on Martin's Day , where kindergarten and school children in particular present their self-made lanterns. At the end there is traditionally a Martins fire and Martins singing followed by "Schnörzen".

Statistical data

The 5,156 Lengsdorf residents live on around 180 hectares. The district has grown rapidly since 1990: the population has increased by 12.2%. At 40, the average Lengsdorf resident is just as old as the average Bonn resident. 830 people are under 18 years old, almost 800 are 65 or older. Almost every second Lengsdorf resident is Catholic (47%), 20% are Protestant (compared to Bonn 41% Catholic, 23% Protestant). Around 1000 immigrants live in the district, which corresponds to 22.1% (Bonn 22.4%).

The rent level of around 2,300 Lengsdorf apartments is 0.7 percent above the Bonn average. The unemployment rate is 13.5% (Bonn: 9.2%).

Katzenlochbachtal

The Katzenlochbachtal nature reserve extends over a length of seven kilometers directly adjacent to Lengsdorf , in which there are only four crossings between Röttgen and Ückesdorf on the western side and Lengsdorf and Ippendorf on the eastern side: two wooden bridges, the path, "Am Katzenlochbach" and the ship's path. The valley is called Katzenlochbachtal because of the Katzenlochbach, which flows from Röttgen via Ückesdorf through the Katzenlochbach valley (and later flows into Dransdorf as the Endeicher Bach after approx. 10.6 km as the longest brook in Bonn). Wildcats - the namesake for the valley and stream - probably lived on the Katzenlochbach until the middle of the 20th century , but they were exterminated through hunting and urban sprawl. In the meantime, a wildcat population has been detected in the adjacent Kottenforst, which may also spread to the old Katzenlochbachtal district. The Katzenlochbachtal is otherwise very natural: The valley has alder - alluvial forests and spring swamps on the valley slope. There are protected animal (especially bird) species, such as the nightingale, the oriole and the kingfisher . Also badger , polecat , stone marten , pine marten , grass snake and various amphibians live in the nature reserve. The Katzenlochbachtal has been designated as a nature reserve since 1999 in order to preserve this biological diversity there. In 2004 the entire Kottenforst was designated as a nature reserve and since then has included a. also the Katzenlochbach valley. Since 2000 the Katzenlochbachtal has been designated as part of the Kottenforst as a bird sanctuary and FFH area "Kottenforst forest reserve with Waldville". In addition to the city forester's office, there are many volunteer helpers in the Katzenlochbachtal: A group of nature conservationists - the "Lengsdorfer Bachfreunde" - who, with around 70 members, maintain the orchards in the valley, mow the meadows and, overall, ensure that the ecological interplay between flora and fauna is free from disturbances. One of the activities carried out by the association is the distribution of tree sponsorships. Furthermore, trees are planted by the “Lengsdorfer Bachfreunde” with the help of the city forester's office, whereby old, resistant fruit varieties are in the foreground in the planting.
