"Holy Stairs" at the Kreuzberg Church

Ippo was a Frankish personal name in the 8th century. So Ippendorf means Ippo's village . The first documented mention of Ippendorf comes from the year 1320. In 1959, the construction manager H. Schmidt found an approximately 50,000 year old bow scraper (Moustérien double scraper) made of light gray flint on Schafberg in Ippendorf ; it is the oldest evidence of Ippendorfer history and is in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn. There are also traces of a ring wall from Neolithic times on the Stationsweg . Occasional coins from Roman times and a sandstone altar dedicated to the god Mercurius were found . The Kreuzberg Church was Archbishop and Elector Ferdinand of Cologne built to 1627th The Holy Staircase built by Balthasar Neumann in Rococo style is particularly worth seeing .

In 1670 Ippendorf comprised 29 houses. Wonderfully country belonged to the village by the end of the 18th century to the Electorate of Cologne and shelter as part of the glory Poppelsdorf and Endenich the office administration Bonn. A first chapel was probably built in Ippendorf in the second half of the 18th century, the successor building ( Barbara chapel ) was built in 1807. In 1908 the Catholic parish church of St. Barbara was completed.

From 1816 to 1927 Ippendorf belonged to the Poppelsdorf mayor , then to the Duisdorf office . The community with an area of approx. 162  ha was incorporated into the then federal capital and today's federal city of Bonn on August 1, 1969, together with Bad Godesberg, Beuel, Buschdorf , Duisdorf, Holzlar, Lengsdorf , Lessenich / Meßdorf , Oberkassel and Röttgen . The Ippendorf district within the boundaries of the former community still exists today. From 1973 to 2005 the training and further education center of the Foreign Office ("Diplomatenschule") was located in Ippendorf at Gudenauer Weg 134-136 before it moved to the Borsig Villa Reiherwerder in Berlin-Tegel. In 1985, the office building of the embassy of Czechoslovakia was completed in Ippendorf , which after the embassy moved to Berlin housed a consulate general until 2008 and was demolished in 2012.

Ippendorf is a preferred residential area characterized by many villas.

In Ippendorf (Buchholzstrasse), diplomat Gerold von Braunmühl was shot dead on the street by the RAF on October 10, 1986 .

Infrastructure

Ippendorf has a rich infrastructure, including a post office, a petrol station, a branch of the Sparkasse KölnBonn , a taxi stand, two pharmacies, a supermarket, a drugstore, a bicycle shop, two bakers, a flower shop, two hairdressers and a number of other smaller shops. There are also two kindergartens and a primary school in Ippendorf. Dining options include an Indian restaurant, a home-style inn with a focus on Balkan cuisine and a classic pub. In addition, doctors from various fields work in Ippendorf.

Katzenlochbachtal

The Katzenlochbachtal nature reserve extends over a length of seven kilometers directly adjacent to the residential development of Ippendorf , in which there are only four crossings between Lengsdorf and Ippendorf on the eastern side and Röttgen and Ückesdorf on the western side: two wooden bridges, the path, " Am Katzenlochbach ”, and the Schiffgesweg. The valley is called Katzenlochbachtal because of the Katzenlochbach, which flows from Röttgen via Ückesdorf through the Katzenlochbach valley (and later flows into Dransdorf as the Endeicher Bach after approx. 10.6 km as the longest brook in Bonn). Wildcats - the namesake for the valley and stream - probably lived on the Katzenlochbach until the middle of the 20th century , but they were exterminated through hunting and urban sprawl. In the meantime, a wildcat population has been detected in the adjacent Kottenforst, which may also spread to the old Katzenlochbachtal district.

The Katzenlochbachtal is partly natural: The valley has alder - alluvial forests and spring swamps on the valley slope. There are protected species of animals, especially birds, such as the nightingale, the oriole and the kingfisher . Also badger , polecat , stone marten , pine marten , grass snake and various amphibians live in the nature reserve. The Katzenlochbachtal has been designated as a nature reserve since 1999 in order to preserve this biological diversity there. In 2004 the entire Kottenforst was designated as a nature reserve and since then has included a. also the Katzenlochbach valley.

Since 2000 the Katzenlochbachtal has been designated as part of the Kottenforst as a bird sanctuary and FFH area "Kottenforst forest reserve with Waldville". In addition to the city forester's office, there are many volunteer helpers in the Katzenlochbachtal: A group of nature conservationists - the "Lengsdorfer Bachfreunde" - who, with around 70 members, maintain the orchards in the valley, mow the meadows and, overall, ensure that the ecological interplay between flora and fauna is free from disturbances. One of the activities carried out by the association is the distribution of tree sponsorships. Furthermore, trees are planted by the “Lengsdorfer Bachfreunde” with the help of the city forester's office, whereby old, resistant fruit varieties are in the foreground in the planting.
