The Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy ( MPIfR ) is located in Bonn - Endenich in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The main fields of work of the institute are radio astronomy and infrared astronomy . The Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy was founded in 1966. From then on, work began on building the 100-meter radio telescope Effelsberg in Bad Münstereifel- Effelsberg , which was put into operation in 1972.
In addition to the MPIfR, the Argelander Institute for Astronomy at the University of Bonn is also located in the building complex.
International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS)
The International Max Planck Research School for Astronomy and Astrophysics is located at the institute. The IMPRS is a doctoral school whose programs are conducted in English. It has existed since 2001 and is a cooperation between the MPI for Radio Astronomy, the Argelander Institute for Astronomy at the University of Bonn and the 1st Physics Institute at the University of Cologne . The spokesman for the IMPRS is J. Anton Zensus .
