Pastewka is a German TV series with Bastian Pastewka in which he plays himself. The sitcoms are set in Cologne , Bonn and Frankfurt am Main . Directed by Joseph Orr, Peter Welz , Jan Markus Linhof, Tobi Baumann , Erik Haffner , Wolfgang Groos and Markus Sehr .
The first broadcast took place in 2005 on the German television station Sat.1 , on which the series ran until 2014. From 2018 to 2020, Pastewka continued on Amazon Prime Video . Pastewka was awarded the Rose d'Or , the German Comedy Prize and the German Television Prize and was nominated four times for the Grimme Prize .

The idea of the series is based on the American series Lass es, Larry! (Eng. Curb Your Enthusiasm ) with Larry David , the inventor of the comedy series Seinfeld . Pastewka , however, is not an improvisational show , but is based on scripts mainly from the pen of Sascha Albrecht, Chris Geletneky (seasons 1–7) and Bastian Pastewka himself, and the concept comes closer to the Sarah Silverman Program , which, however, only made its series debut after “Pastewka " would have.
The title melody of the first season, composed by Daniel Wehr , has also not been taken over identically, but is similar to the theme music of the original ( Frolic by Luciano Michelini ). A different title topic can be heard in all other seasons.
The concept was originally offered to the TV broadcaster RTL , which, however, refused.

The content of the series is everyday unhappiness that Bastian Pastewka has to deal with. They are not based on Pastewka's true experiences, but could happen in this or a similar form: “ Did all of this really happen to him?” “No, not everything. Just the embarrassing moments. “When Pastewka tries to take refuge in abbreviations, excuses and lies of all kinds, these are usually discovered and lead to embarrassing situations. Bastian's habit of speaking ill of others whenever it is useful to him makes his own life difficult. Such situations are regularly turned against Bastian, as the negative talk is mostly exposed.
On the agenda are relationship problems with his girlfriend Anne, family problems with his brother Hagen and his daughter Kim as well as a guerrilla war with his neighbor and Hagen's future wife Mrs. Bruck due to various trivialities. Bastian Pastewka
Bastian Pastewka leads the life of a prominent German comedian . Dr. Annemarie "Anne" Leyfert
Anne is Bastian Pastewka's friend. She is a nurse by profession. Before she met Bastian, she studied medicine, but interrupted her studies to spend a year in India . At the request of her father Klaus, who is also a doctor, she decided to resume studying after her stay in India. However, the relationship with Bastian that began shortly afterwards did not result in this, which is why Klaus Leyfert does not like Bastian. Hagen Bruck (née Pastewka)
Hagen Bruck is Bastian's half-brother. As a single parent, he takes care of his daughter Kim and tries to make ends meet with his chronically empty wallet and at the same time to find the woman of his life. Since the third season he has been with Svenja Bruck, Bastian Pastewka's neighbor, whom he married in the eighth season and whose name he takes on. The performer is Matthias Matschke .
Kimberley-Jolante "Kim" von Ahlenfeld (née Pastewka)
Kim, actually Kimberley-Jolante Pastewka, is Hagen's daughter. She is 13 years old at the beginning of the series and hates her uncle Bastian from the bottom of her heart. Reasons for confrontations arise quickly when Hagen drops her off at Bastian's home so that she can meet a potential dream woman herself. Volker Pastewka
Volker Pastewka lives in Bonn and is Bastian's and Hagen's father. He is extremely harsh towards Bastian, which is why Bastian does not particularly like him. Esther
Esther is Regine Holl's secretary and her deputy. In the episode The Advertising Trailer she was fired, but shortly thereafter discontinued. She only appears at irregular intervals and forges Bastian's signature on his autograph cards. In the second season she gives birth to a daughter and is pregnant again in the fourth season. In season six, she brings her six-year-old son Franklin to work. Esther is portrayed by Lisa Sommerfeldt .
Yo
Jo is Anne's ex-boyfriend and occasionally visits Anne and Bastian. Bastian doesn't like him, however, because he is absolutely convinced that Jo still loves Anne, which Jo also admits in the episode The Wedding (Season 2). In the episode My Friend Jo (season 3), Jo visits the Pastewkas because he has become a representative of an organic energy drink company. Susanne Winter
Susanne is a friend of Bastian's friend Anne. She only appears in the first two seasons. She has a relationship with Jochen Winter, whom she also marries at the end of the second season. Locations
Most of the filming locations for the series are in Cologne . The recordings of the apartment building, in which Bastian with Anne and Hagen with Svenja and Kim live for the first five seasons, were taken at the residential building Emmastraße 1 in the southwestern Cologne district of Sülz . The shooting of the villa, in which they live from the sixth season, was made at Kastanienallee 20 in the southern Cologne noble district Marienburg . The shooting location for Gut Bruck , where Hagen lives with Svenja and Kim in the ninth season, was Gut Asperschlag in Bergheim 's Niederaussem district .
Recurring allusions, scenes and jokes
In the course of the series and the individual episodes, various allusions, scenes and jokes (" running gags ") are regularly repeated .
These stylistic devices are used very often in the series and contribute significantly to the characterization of the role figure Pastewka:

Broadcasting and ratings
The first three seasons were broadcast annually between 2005 and 2007. Filming for season 9 began on May 3, 2018 and ended on July 30, 2018. On January 25, 2019, all episodes of season 9 were released simultaneously. Exact call figures are not provided. According to Amazon, the 9th season is the most watched comedy series on the in-house video service in Germany and Austria.
The 10th season appeared on behalf of Amazon on February 7, 2020. Bastian Pastewka stated that there will be no more sequels.

Cinema tour
On the occasion of the start of the sixth season there was a cinema tour through Germany in September 2012, on which four exclusively selected episodes of the season could be seen. The tour was presented by MySpass.de, Brainpool and Sat.1 in various Cinemaxx cinemas in Berlin, Hamburg, Essen, Stuttgart and Cologne. On December 2, 2013, the Christmas special and the first episode of the seventh season was shown in the Berlin Theater on Ku'damm before it was broadcast on television. The complete seventh season was shown from August 26 to September 4, 2014 on a further cinema tour in Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Hanover, Würzburg, Stuttgart, Munich, Essen and Cologne. The first episode of the eighth season premiered on January 23, 2018 at Kino International in Berlin. Johanna Klum moderated the event, which was also streamed live on Facebook. On January 24th and 25th, 2018, there was a fan premiere each in Munich and Cologne, for which tickets were raffled in advance.
After the premiere of the 10th season on January 30, 2020 Berlin Zoo Palast , there was the final season a theater tour in six CinemaxX - cinemas and Cinedom in the exclusive advance the first four episodes were shown.

The series generally generated a positive image from the start. In the opinion of Stefan Niggemeier - who is later mentioned in the series - in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Pastewka plays "the role of his life" in the series. According to Matthias Schwarzer from Neue Westfälische, the eighth season of Pastewka contains many product placements , hardly uses the running gags of previous seasons and "contains more tragic moments".
DVD availability
The first season was released as DVD on September 15, 2006 , and the first episode is included as a director's cut . An additional DVD contains audio commentary on three episodes, a trailer , a making-of , a Pastewka quiz and other bonus material.
The second season was released on October 26, 2007 on DVD. An additional DVD contains audio commentary on three episodes, outtakes , a photo gallery with audio commentary, a Pastewka quiz and other bonus material.
The third season was released on June 27, 2008 on DVD. An additional DVD contains audio commentary on three episodes, a making-of, outtakes, a Pastewka quiz and other bonus material.
The fourth season was released on November 20, 2009 as DVD and for the first time includes the episodes and many extras on three instead of two DVDs. In addition, the Pastewka Collector's Box with all nine DVDs of the first four seasons was released on November 20, 2009 .
The fifth season was released on March 11, 2011 on DVD. Once again, three DVDs contain all ten episodes of the season as well as many extras.
On December 9, 2011, the second Collector's Box with all episodes of the first five seasons appeared on twelve DVDs.
The sixth season was released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 5, 2012.
The seventh season Christmas episode has been available on DVD since November 2013. The approx. 80 minutes running time result from the episode itself (approx. 43 minutes) and the bonus material on the DVD.
The seventh season has been available on three DVDs and as Blu-ray since September 5, 2014 (and thus at the start of broadcasting). All nine regular episodes plus bonus material are included. The Christmas episode is not part of the release.
On March 27, 2015, an anniversary box with all 67 episodes of the first seven seasons, the Christmas story and all bonus material was released on a total of 19 DVDs.
The eighth season has been available on DVD and Blu-ray since March 23, 2018, as well as a limited fan edition, which contains both versions and additional bonus material.
The ninth season was released on DVD and Blu-ray on April 12, 2019. The season also includes bonus material.

Pastewka can be accessed via the Internet from both the video-on-demand services Maxdome and Amazon Video , which have all previously broadcast episodes available for download, and from Apple's German iTunes store . Pastewka was also available on Netflix until September 2017 . The first seven seasons and the Christmas episode are also available free of charge on the myspass.de platform operated by the production company Brainpool . The eighth season is the first to be broadcast on the video-on-demand service Amazon Video rather than on free TV .
