Alexandra Maria Lara
Alexandra Maria Lara (real name Alexandra Maria Riley ; born November 12, 1978 in Bucharest as Alexandra Maria Plătăreanu ) is a German - Romanian actress .
Life
Lara's father, the actor Valentin Plătăreanu , was Vice Director of the State Theater in Bucharest , her mother is a linguist. The family fled the Ceaușescu regime in 1983 on a day visa . The family originally wanted to flee to Canada , but then settled in Germany. Lara first grew up in Freiburg im Breisgau before her family moved to Berlin. Her father quickly gained a foothold in Germany: he worked as an acting teacher and founded the state-recognized acting school in Charlottenburg . Lara was always a member of the school theater. After graduating from the French Gymnasium in Berlin , she took lessons at her father's drama school between 1997 and 2000.
At the age of eleven, she made her debut in front of the camera in the television film With Love, Rita . At the age of 16, she played the title role in the ZDF early evening series Mensch, Pia! On the advice of her agent and her father, by this time she had already given up her Romanian surname, Alexandra Plătăreanu had become Alexandra Maria Lara. In 1997 she played the leading role in the television thriller Die Mädchenfalle - Death Comes Online, alongside her education . A year later she starred alongside Benno Fürmann in the award-winning television film Die Bubi-Scholz-Story by Roland Suso Richter .
In the cinema Lara was seen in the films Fisimatenten and Südsee, my own island . In 2000 she played a small role in the youth drama Crazy . In 2001, the episode film Honolulu , directed by Oscar winner Florian Gallenberger, and the two-part television production Der Tunnel , for which it won the New Face Award , followed. In 2002 she played in several productions, for example in the German construction worker comedy What doesn't fit is made to fit . In the four-part European television production Napoleon with Gérard Depardieu , Isabella Rossellini and John Malkovich , she was seen as the Polish Countess Maria Walewska . The versatile actress found other roles in Naked by Doris Dörrie at the side of Jürgen Vogel and in the English television production Doctor Schiwago .
In 2004 she played her best-known role, Hitler's secretary Traudl Junge , in the German film Der Untergang . This also convinced Francis Ford Coppola . He wrote Lara a letter and gave her a leading role in his film Jugend ohne Jugend , which was released in German cinemas on July 10, 2008. At the beginning of 2005 she was seen in Helmut Dietl's romance Vom Suche undfind der Liebe alongside Moritz Bleibtreu .
In 2007, Lara turned down the role of a secretary in the film Operation Valkyrie - The Stauffenberg Assassination . A year later she was appointed to the competition jury at the 61st Cannes Film Festival .
Private
Alexandra Maria Lara lives in Berlin and has been married to the English actor Sam Riley since August 2009 , whom she met in 2006 while filming Control . The couple have one son.
