Everything could be perfect for the parents Livia and Marco with their nine month old son Tim. But he doesn't let them rest in the night and robs them of their last nerve night after night with his roar. The baby as an attempt to save a crisis-ridden relationship seems to have failed, because it forces the parents into the car every night because the engine noise is the only thing that can bring Tim to rest. One night the unbelievable happens: the car and the baby are stolen. A rapid hunt through the night follows. The involuntary child kidnappers Claire and Jorge do astonishingly well as babysitters, the parents Marco and Livia argue themselves in this situation and go on a wrong track until they can finally take the baby in their arms again.

Reviews

«A turbulent road movie with atmospheric images that remains exciting until the end. The scenes are full of drama and humor. Well staged and entertaining »

- NZZ on Sunday

“Unfortunately, bestselling author Suter, who hired himself as a screenwriter here, and Schaub limit themselves to the chaos of persecution and thus lose sight of the tragic comedy. The unbeatable Austrian villain Georg Friedrich ('Breathing') alone is a stunner here too. Friedrich creates an ambiguity that unfortunately the film itself cannot achieve anywhere. "

“[...] the drama between the two couples does not come to a head. The initially realistic attempt by Livia and Marco to face their marital problems is interrupted and finally gets completely lost in the wild plot. […] It seems as if the director and author wanted to tune their road movie with Pulp. But in the end, the filmmakers are taking away the pairs of characters the chance to maintain their acquired strength. "

"Pseudo-Tarantinoesque bores"

“An airy comedy [...], a heavy psychodrama [...] and a fast thriller. 'Nachtlärm' is constantly changing between genres, which is an exciting idea [...]. All of them are excellent actors who 'Nachtlärm' gathered, and Suter put a lot of pointed, cracklingly sharp dialogues into their mouths. "

“A pair of crooks, two desperate parents and a small child on the autobahn: successful author Martin Suter develops a marriage psychogram with drive in 'Nachtlärm'. And a thoroughly comical reminiscence of the wild American action cinema. Showdown in the early morning fog included. "

- Süddeutsche Zeitung

“In 'Nachtlärm' there are approaches to a bitter farce, an absurd thriller and a gripping psycho-drama, but director Christoph Schaub sits between all chairs and, with his indecisive mix of genres, cannot develop any of the promising approaches to full development bring. "

«Night noise really takes off. Schaub's hitherto smooth relationship drama is now transformed into a brisk crime comedy in which roaring engines, a startled citizen, a fake policeman, some cows and a bad boy play a role, and in the end everything is as before and yet one is little different. Schaub staged Nachtlärm at high speed, the story, penned by bestselling author Martin Suter, takes a number of surprising turns, is entertaining and funny. The roles are well cast across the board.
