This is a list of the characters from The Three ??? - Follow . The author of the figure is in square brackets. If none is mentioned, it was invented by the author Robert Arthur .

main characters

The three ??? are a junior detective team that originally emerged from a brain teaser club based in Rocky Beach. In the original episodes, the three detectives are around 12 to 13 years old. From episode 46 they are 16 years old and can drive a car. The detective team consists of:

Justus Jupiter "Just" Jonas

Oliver Rohrbeck speaks Justus Jonas

(in the original Jupiter "Jupe" Jones , First Detective - spoken by Oliver Rohrbeck in the German radio play )

Justus is the founder of the detective agency, which is headquartered in an old trailer in his uncle's junkyard. The so-called “headquarters” is equipped with a computer, a telephone and a photo laboratory. To protect it from prying eyes, it is hidden under junk in episodes 1-41 and since episode 125 and can only be reached through secret passages.

Justus is a chubby boy with a brilliant mind. Not infrequently he annoys his fellow detective and above all the convicted criminals with his swollen way of talking, his preference to keep flashes of inspiration to himself until the execution and to hold lectures. He detests physical activity, all forms of violence and has a fear of heights . His parents Julius and Catherine died when he was a young child. Since then he has lived with his uncle Titus and his aunt Mathilda, who run the second-hand goods center Titus Jonas in Rocky Beach. As a child, he starred in the television series Wee Rogues (mostly translated as The Little Rascals ). In it he played a precocious, plump boy named Baby Fatso .

In most of the episodes, Justus inevitably becomes the main character. The criminals seem to quickly realize that he is a genius. Master thief Victor Hugenay asks Justus several times to work with him. However, he only complies with this request once - in the following " ... and the strange alarm clock ". In “ Message from the Underworld ”, Justus is given the choice of who his better friend is - Bob or Peter. After much hesitation, Jupiter decides in favor of Peter, but does not justify his decision.

In addition to his often cheeky demeanor, Justus also has other aspects of character, which become particularly clear in some episodes: In “ The Empty Grave ”, he does not act in a well thought-out way for the first time, but rather hastily. He is in love with “ The Legacy of the Master Thief ” and even wants to commit a theft for it. In " Message from the Underworld " he is confronted with the fear of being accepted into a witness protection program .

In the older episodes, the stories were mainly told from the perspective of Bob and Peter - similar to master detective Sherlock Holmes , the unsuspecting companions were allowed to describe how they observed the genius but did not know what it was thinking about. In the first few episodes in particular, Justus is compared to Sherlock Holmes and the subject is picked up again in " Message from the Underworld ". In more recent episodes, however, Justus' thoughts are described more often and less use of comparisons is made. His middle name Jupiter is mentioned for the first time in " The Empty Grave " . This is a reference to his name Jupiter Jones in the original series.

Justus girlfriend Lys de Kerk is a former Hollywood actress who started her studies. In " The Secret Key " they split up again after Lys hadn't appeared as a character for a long time. Justus has had a motorcycle since “ The Bite of the Beast ”, but he has to hide it because Aunt Mathilda forbids him to drive it.

Peter Dunstan Shaw

Jens Wawrczeck speaks Peter Shaw

(in the original Peter "Pete" Crenshaw , second detective - spoken by Jens Wawrczeck in the German radio play )

Peter is the tallest and most powerful of the three detectives. He's a sports ace. Therefore, it is his job to pursue fleeing criminals - whether on foot or by bike. Despite his physique, the second detective is the most fearful of them all. He sees his caution, however, as necessary to escape the dangerous adventures unscathed. In precarious situations, Peter is often the bravest of the three; For example, in “ The Secret Key ” he climbs up a rusted ladder on a dilapidated building and in “ The Secret Staircase ” a rock face. In the “Vanished Treasure” he declares himself ready to overcome a 25 meter high wall with the help of a thin nylon rope to save Justus and himself - downwards. He is also the only one of the three who believes in ghosts.

Peter is the quickest of the three detectives. Peter feels a deep hatred towards Skinny Norris and other opponents. If he is annoyed or threatened by other people, he sometimes has thoughts of revenge. In more recent episodes, Peter is increasingly portrayed as being slightly dumb. Since the episode “ Geisterbucht ” he has kept a foreign dictionary in which he enters all the complicated terms that Justus uses.

In the episode “ Symphony of Fear ” it becomes known that Peter is a synesthete . So he links colors with letters, tones and numbers. As a result, he is the only one who can overcome a query to enter a secured building, in the same way: "What color does this tone sound like?"

He is the proud owner of a Dietrich collection that hardly a door has been locked. He also repairs cars in some episodes and is the first of the three detectives with his own car, a red machine gun that is not always reliable . In the older episodes he has other cars at times.

In “ Imminent Danger ” you learn that Peter’s second name is Dunstan .

He also has a girlfriend, her name is Kelly Madigan . In the computer game “ Das Gold der Inkas ” published in 2007, the engagement of the two is announced, but this is not taken up in the books and radio plays.

Robert "Bob" Andrews

( Research and archive - spoken by Andreas Fröhlich in the German radio play )

Andreas Fröhlich speaks Bob Andrews

When founding the three question marks in the English pilot episode “ The secret of terror castle ”, Bob is limited by a broken leg, so he was originally responsible for research and archiving . This suits his interests very well, as he is a passionate bookworm and in the earlier episodes of the series he often works in the local library in the afternoons. At the beginning, Bob is the smallest of the three detectives and wears glasses. No information escapes his scrupulous search in libraries and newspaper archives. He also enjoys taking photos and developing the photos in the darkroom at headquarters. The three question marks draw considerable benefits from this for your detective work. In later episodes, the detectives are in possession of a digital camera. Bob's father is a reporter for the Los Angeles Post , and his contacts are often helpful for the three question marks.

In the Crimebuster episodes, in which the three question marks get older, Bob undergoes a small change: his interest in books diminishes , but his preference for music grows. He replaces his glasses with contact lenses and develops into a womanizer . His work in the music agency Sax Sandler increasingly limits his time for the investigation. Since episode 57, however, these aspects have only been emphasized in critical situations.

Bob is of a calm, reserved nature. He is humorous, quick-witted and rarely loses his composure. During the arguments between Justus and Peter, Bob usually acts as a mediator. Since he doesn't speak much, he takes a back seat in some episodes. He plays bigger roles in " Music of the Devil " or " The Nameless Adversary ". In " Spur ins Nowhere " he has to free his trapped friends and in " ... und der Nebelberg " he keeps a travel diary through which his feelings become clear in a completely different way.

Bob's full name is Robert, but only his parents call him that. The business card also says Bob Andrews . His girlfriend is called Elizabeth Zapata , but he has separated from her again. He drives an old yellow VW Beetle .

American writer William Arden said in an interview that Bob was most likely the detective Robert Arthur identified with the most. Both have similar names with identical initials (Robert Arthur ↔ Robert Andrews). In addition, Bob is the first detective you get to know as a reader in the opening episode "... and the Haunted Castle" . Robert Arthur also named his son Robert Andrew.

In the episode "Revenge of the Undead" (179) you also learn that Bob is left-handed. When he injured his right forearm during a search and Jupiter wanted to bandage it, Bob asked him to take off his watch so that Jupiter could better disinfect his arm.

Alfred Hitchcock † (until episode 46)

(spoken in the radio play by Peter Pasetti (up to episode 46), then continued as a narrator (up to episode 64), then by Matthias Fuchs (episodes 65–103) and by Thomas Fritsch (episodes 104–186))

Until the episode “... and the quirky millionaire” , Alfred Hitchcock also takes part as a character. He instructs the three detectives to deal with new cases or provides them with advice and assistance. In the first book ( “… and the ghost castle” ) the three detectives try to win Alfred Hitchcock as “godparents” for their company. With a lot of tricks Justus finally succeeds in convincing the Hollywood director, and the three friends receive their first assignment from him: to find a haunted castle as a location for a film project.

The books of the earlier episodes begin with a foreword by Alfred Hitchcock and end with an epilogue-like report of the three detectives in the film director's office. In the universe of the three question marks, Hitchcock is the one who publishes Bob's case reports as books. In contrast to the original, the German book edition of the first series also contains a number of intermediate remarks with which the fictional Hitchcock interrupts the narrative of the plot and gives the reader food for thought. In the radio plays he takes the narrative position in the early episodes (spoken by Peter Pasetti), in addition to his occasional appearances in the immediate action. In the later radio drama episodes, only one narrator appears who, however, no longer represents the character of Alfred Hitchcock.

After Hitchcock's death, the episode " ... and the scarred face " was the first episode without him. The episode itself said that Hitchcock had died, and the writer Albert Hitfield published the cases from then on. After the license to use the name Hitchcock in Germany was granted, the first edition was revised. Hitfield remained as a character in the second edition, but Hitchcock was mentioned in the usual way and the notes on his death deleted. When the license expired in 2005, Hitchcock was replaced in the new editions by the fictional director Albert Hitfield . Since a person with this name already existed for the three question marks, namely the above-mentioned writer, this led to a serious mistake in the new edition of the Scarred Face by Omnibus : the writer and the film director of the same name appeared in the same story. In " On Deadly Course ", Hitchcock is finally declared dead.

Hitchcock himself was portrayed as a sometimes angry old man, who spoke calmly, objectively and with interest to the three question marks about their cases and wrote them down, but who quickly got angry when the detectives made false comments. If they needed his help, however, he was helpful.

Albert Hitfield

(Originally: Hector Sebastian - spoken by Manfred Steffen in the radio play , and in the special episode House of Horrors - House of Fear by Volker Bogdan ) [ Random House / MV Carey ]

Albert Hitfield is a writer and former private investigator from New York. He was seriously injured in a plane crash, so he had to give up his investigative work. Since then he has been limping and has to rely on a walking stick. The three ??? get to know him in " ... and the scarred face " when Jupiter brings him back the wallet that Bob had found. His literary success enabled him to buy Charlie's Place, a former restaurant in the mountains of Malibu. His book Dark Legacy was even made into a film. After Hitchcock's death, Hitfield is the friend and mentor of the three detectives from this episode in the American original . In Germany this change was only available in one edition of the scar face. After that, the license for the use of Hitchcock's name in Germany was regained, so that Hitchcock was also the mentor of the three ??? is. Since 2005, new editions of cases with Hitchcock have been replaced by Albert Hitfield (see also Alfred Hitchcock ). In " ... and the pearl birds " the three need ??? however, to resolve her case, the help of Hitfield's house servant Hoang Van Don (voiced by Volker Brandt ) and visit him a second time in the German translation. In the episode “ The Empty Grave ” he calls Justus to inform him that his parents might still be alive.

The 2013 cases “ The Cold Eye ”, “ The Tornado Hunter ” and “ The Tomb of the Inca Mummy ” were published again with a finger pointing and a foreword and afterword by Hitfield. In the preface, Hitfield explains that in his chaos he has documents from old cases of the three ??? that he wanted to publish.

Minor characters

Some characters appear repeatedly in supporting roles :

police officers

Chief Superintendent Samuel Reynolds

Horst Frank speaks to Commissioner Reynolds

(Originally: Chief Reynolds - spoken by Horst Frank in the radio play up to episode 36 , in episodes 40 and 37 by Günther Flesch , from episode 43 by Wolfgang Draeger )

Chief Inspector Reynolds helps the three question marks again and again in tricky situations or is surprised by Justus with the incredible solution to a puzzling case. The relationship with the chief inspector is always very friendly, although the latter partially criticizes the risky behavior of the three question marks. Reynolds is spoken by Horst Frank in the radio plays at the beginning. After being replaced by Inspector Cotta in the early stages of the German episodes, he appears now and then in more recent episodes of German authors. He has now retired, but is still close friends with the three detectives. In " On Fatal Course ", Commissioner Reynolds decides to reopen the documentation of the three ??? stories after Hitchcock's death. They also meet him in " Wolfsgesicht ". In this episode it is announced that when he retires, he will be the Drei ??? gave a glass bear. In “ Message from the Underworld ” he does a covert investigation into the three question marks. In “ Street of Horror ” he is kidnapped by a British underworld boss.

Inspector Cotta

(spoken in the radio play by Holger Mahlich (in episode 57 by Michael Poelchau , in episodes 61 and 62 by Willem Fricke )) { Brigitte-Johanna Henkel-Waidhofer based on Sergeant Cota (episodes 49 & 56) William Arden }

Inspector Cotta will act as the point of contact for the three question marks with the local police after the retirement of Inspector Reynolds. He is mostly calm and helpful, but tends to be sarcastic in his statements . It is not uncommon for his intervention towards the end of an episode to save the three detectives from a precarious situation for them; in more recent episodes, which are sometimes marked by greater drama, he even saves them from certain death, including in Man without a Head . Occasionally the inspector also objects to the three detectives being able to handle a case, especially against the background of the dangers that he believes are too great. With his promotion in mind, Cotta in Feuermond reacts very gruffly to the efforts of the three question marks.

Inspector Kershaw

(spoken by Frank Felicetti in the radio play ) [ André Marx ]

Inspector Kershaw is the vacation replacement for Inspector Cotta in the episodes " Poltergeist ", " The Eye of the Dragon " and " Haunted Bay ". He can do the three ??? do not stand and refuses to work with them. He is of the opinion that he can solve the cases on his own and would like to reap the glory after solving a case himself.

Kenny Cinelly

(spoken by Bernd Stephan in the radio play ) [ Kari Erlhoff ]

Cinelly is a somewhat bumbling policeman who strictly adheres to the rules and doesn't trust the three question marks. In contrast to Kershaw, he lets himself be convinced by them, but does not grant them the freedom of fools like Cotta. So far he appears in the episodes " The Bite of the Beast " and " Message from the Underworld ".

Family and junkyard

Mathilda Jonas

(Justus' aunt - spoken by Karin Lieneweg in the radio play (in episode 40 by Ingeborg Kallweit , in episode 44 by Dorothea Kaiser , in episode 45 by Ursula Vogel , in the new mixes each newly spoken by Karin Lieneweg))

Aunt Mathilda and her husband run the Titus Jonas used goods center . She is good-natured, clever and humorous, but only too happy to harness the three detectives for physically demanding work in the junkyard. One of her strengths is her cherry cake, with which she often manages to get the three detectives to help. She is also a connoisseur and lover of horror films. She had her biggest appearance so far in " The Villa of the Dead ", in which she helps the three question marks to solve her case - in the role of a necromancer organized by Justus. She also gives the three ??? in the case of the “ doping mixer ”, the order to help her best friend.

Titus Andronicus Jonas

(Justus' uncle - spoken in the radio play up to episode 169 by Andreas E. Beurmann under the pseudonym Hans Meinhardt (in episode 33 by Peter Kirchberger , in episode 40 by Gottfried Kramer , in the new mixes each new recorded by Andreas E. Beurmann (also as Hans Meinhardt )), from episode 183 spoken by Rüdiger Schulzki )

Uncle Titus is a short man with a black, bushy mustache. He and his wife run the T. Jonas used goods center in the scrap yard. He used to work as an artist in the circus and owned a gas station. He is the brother of Justus' biological father. Titus Jonas is almost always friendly and happy and turns towards the three detectives. He also likes to use their help, but not as often as his wife. He only gets angry in really serious situations. In the episodes about the super parrot , the haunted castle and the flaming trail , his wife Mathilda addresses him by his middle name: Titus Andronicus; in the curse of the dragon a policeman uses Titus' full name.

John William Melvin Roger Andrews

(Bob's father - spoken in the radio play by Joachim Richert (episode 30), Günter König (episode 45–81), Roland Becker (episode 83 & 84) and Henry König (“ … and the three day ”, episode 149-175, “ Das Riddle of the Seven "))

Mr. Andrews is Bob's father. He works at the Los Angeles Post and occasionally helps the three question marks with information from the newspaper's archives. He mainly appears in the episodes " ... and the reef of the sharks " and " ... and the dangerous barrels ", in which he crashes with the three detectives in an airplane, the secret of the valley of the ancestors is to be discovered and killed. Due to many different authors, he was repeatedly assigned different first names: In " ... and the green spirit " he is called Bill (since this episode was written by the inventor Robert Arthur , this is his originally correct first name). Later he is called John , Mel and Roger . Later he is usually called Mel . Only in “ The Nameless Opponent ” does the author Kari Erlhoff create clarity by giving him the name mentioned above.

Mr. Andrews is with Mrs. Andrews (spoken by Renate Pichler (episode 45), Carola Lange (episode 84), Konstanze Ullmer (episode 149 & 150, " The Riddle of Seven ") and Heidrun von Goessel (episode 201) ) married. Not much is known about her other than that she is interested in art, as you can find out in Fire Moon .

Patrick and Kenneth O'Ryan

(in the original: Hans and Konrad Schmid - spoken in the radio play by Wolfgang Kubach (Patrick) (in episodes 31 & 32 by Joachim Richert ) and Lutz Mackensy (Kenneth) (in episode 33 by Werner Cartano ))

The two Irish brothers Patrick and Kenneth O'Ryan act as Uncle Titus' right hand in the junkyard. They are very strong and come to the rescue of the boys several times in case of unwanted visitors. The two no longer appear in the new episodes. The fact that they moved back to Ireland is mentioned in more passing. In the American original, the two brothers come from Bavaria . In the German translations, however, they have been relocated to Ireland since the first episode.

"Blacky" Blackbeard

two beos that Blacky belongs to

(spoken by Heikedine Körting in the radio play )

Blackbeard, who is also called Blacky in later episodes, plays a central role in the episode "... and the super parrot" (first radio play and eighth book). In this episode, the three boys get it as a present from a Mexican boy. His uncle had previously sold it for $ 5. a. whether his foul rage returned. You can hear him croaking the question marks in the headquarters. It is a Beo (Gracula religiosa) or Mynah (as mentioned in the series), a particularly docile bird from the starling family . His “phone, phone” croaks have developed cult status among the audience. In the radio plays he is spoken by the responsible director Heikedine Körting . As part of the live performance ... and the super parrot in the Hamburg Color Line Arena from 2004, Andreas von der Meden , who otherwise spoke Morton and Skinny Norris , took on the role of Blacky.

In the German books, Blacky only appears in "... und der Super-Parroti" , after which he is never mentioned again. In the original stories he is also mentioned in " ... and the whispering mummy " and " ... and the curse of the ruby ". Since these appeared in Germany before the super parrot, they were replaced here by a tame raven. It was not until the DreiTag, published in 2010, that he reappeared - as a hostage of a stalker - and Blacky was performed again in the 2011 short story volume " ... and the ghost lamp ".

Mr. and Mrs. Shaw

(Peter's parents)

Henry Shaw (spoken in the radio play by Joachim Richert (episode 18), Franz-Josef Steffens (episode 23), Horst Schick (episode 34), Eberhard Haar (episode 69 & 91) and Rasmus Borowski ("... and the ghost lamp")) is Peter's father who works for a film effects company. In " ... and the ghost island " the three ??? with him to the ghost island. In the accompanying film - The three ??? - The secret of the ghost island is also there.

Mrs. Shaw (spoken in the radio play by Marianne Kehlau (episodes 21 & 38), Heikedine Körting (episodes 69 - 182) and Isabella Grote ("... and the three day")) is Peter's mother. She is only known to be interested in classical music. With this knowledge she can give the three detectives in episode 75 a crucial clue. Her father is the eccentric Bennington Peck (spoken by Wolfgang Völz ), with whom the three ??? drive through the United States in "... and the invisible enemy" , and meet him again in "Haunted Bay" . Peter's grandfather plays a central role in the story “ Insel des Vergessens ”.

Catherine and Julius Jonas †

[ André Marx ]

Catherine and Julius Jonas are Justus' dead parents who, although they never appear, are still frequently mentioned. Most of the information about them can be found in The Empty Grave . While " ... and the risky ride " says that they died in a car accident, it is pointed out here that they died in a plane crash on the north coast of South America when Justus was 5 years old. In this episode, Justus learns from his friend, the writer Albert Hitfield, that he claims to have met a couple named Jonas in Venezuela who claimed to come from a small town near Los Angeles. This leads him to suspect that his parents fled to Venezuela. He travels there to investigate. He suspects his girlfriend Lys that his parents disappeared without a trace after the plane crash in order to get rid of him and the rest of the family. However, it turns out that the couple are merely smugglers who are exporting diamonds from Venezuela to the United States. They needed an alias and it was only by chance that they came across the Jonas couple. Since then they have been pretending to be the same.

Julius Jonas is the brother of Titus Jonas.

Bob and Peter's investigations reveal that Uncle Titus was in a conflict with Catherine. He had lent her a considerable amount of money but never got it back.

Ty Cassey

(spoken by Stefan Brönneke in the radio play ) [ William Arden ]

Ty is Justus' cousin. He appears for the first time in " ... and the Automafia ". Ty is 27 years old and has no permanent residence, but drives classic cars through California. Whenever he's in Rocky Beach, he visits the three ???. He gets along particularly well with Peter, with whom he shares his passion for cars. Ty makes a living fixing cars.

Ty is a character from the American " Crimebuster " series. He does not appear outside of this part of the series. In the radio plays his appearances are limited to " ... and the Automafia ".

Friends

Morton

(Original: Worthington , Chauffeur - spoken by Andreas von der Meden in the radio play )

Morton is the chauffeur of the black, gold-studded Rolls-Royce , who is available to the three detectives in their investigations. Morton works for Gelbert car rental company . Originally, Morton stands for the three ??? only available for a limited time of 30 days due to a winning competition. The former customer August August from the case ... and the curse of the ruby offered the further use of the car as a thank you (because of the different order of the German radio play adaptation from the US template, the reasons change in the first radio plays). Morton is always matter-of-fact and with integrity and rarely shows any emotion - but often emphasizes that he really enjoys working with the three question marks. He is reliable and likes to play polo and chess. His sometimes exaggeratedly polite tone of voice is due to his English ancestry. Morton even helps the three question marks at the end of “ Night in Fear ” by blocking the getaway car with the Rolls-Royce. The car breaks partially. In “ Deadly Trail ”, however, he is indirectly involved in criminal activities because he is hiding stolen property, and is even reported as dead. He brings the three ??? always wherever they make it. In the case of "the empty grave", for example, Justus Jonas is driven to Albert Hitfield, who claimed that he had seen Justus' supposedly dead parents on his vacation.

Andreas von der Meden is the only speaker who also played his role in one of the films, namely in The Three ??? - The cursed castle speaks.

Jelena Charkova

(spoken by Alexandra Doerk in the radio play ) [ André Marx ]

Jelena is a paraplegic, self-confident girl who lives with her father ( Mr. Charkov , voiced by Klaus Dittmann ) in a large villa with a concert hall and loves to play the violin. Her mother died during Jelena's early childhood. Jelena helps the three question marks in some cases. She maintains contact with them through Bob, with whom she was already friends. However, the relationship with Justus is not so good. Since both are intellectually on the same level, conflicts are inevitable. Jelena sometimes doesn't take Jelena seriously or thinks she is “extremely arrogant” because in return she would like him to do “henchman work”. With her sharp, cunning sayings, she often drives him crazy. They both hate to be compared to each other. A special feature was attributed to Jelena as a minor character in the book series 100, when a longer scene was described from her point of view, which had not existed before in comparable measure.

Kelly Madigan

(spoken in the radio play by Juliane Szalay , and by Kerstin Draeger in episode 47) [ Random House / William Arden ]

Kelly is Peter's girlfriend. She has blonde hair with bright red streaks. Sometimes she is a little annoyed that the three detectives rarely have time for her, but she helps them several times with their assignments. In the episode “ Poltergeist ” she becomes the client of the three ??? and in “ The Nameless Opponent ” she gives them a decisive clue. In the radio plays it has been deleted since “ Hidden Fouls ”, no matter how important it is for the case. Screenwriter André Minninger justified this with the negative reaction of the audience to the detectives' friends. Meanwhile, Kelly is also the only one of the friends who still appears in the books.

Carol Bennett

(spoken by Renate Pichler in the radio play )

Miss Bennett is the head of the Rocky Beach City Library. She helps the three detectives every now and then in their cases, so she gives the three ??? for example in “ Shadows over Hollywood ” some helpful hints that lead to the solution of the case. In " Spuk im Netz " she disappears, whereupon the three ??? looking for her. The last time she appeared in the case " ... and the three days ". She also comes into play as a supporting character in numerous other cases.

George Cooper

(spoken by Utz Richter in the radio play ) [ Ben Nevis ]

George Cooper, known as Rubbish George , is a tramp in Rocky Beach. He occasionally observes important events and provides the three detectives with important details, often for a fee. In the episode " SMS from the grave " he disappears, whereupon the three ??? travel to Egypt to find him. He also appears in the “ Fire Moon ” anniversary event . He's not a tramp since “ Skateboard Fever ”. In "Fiery Eye", however, he lives again in a shed on an abandoned property.

Elizabeth Zapata

(spoken by Verena Großer in the radio play ) [ GH Stone (invented) / Brigitte-Johanna Henkel-Waidhofer (deepened)]

Elizabeth was Bob's friend and appeared on the sidelines a few times. However, it has not been mentioned for a long time.

Lys de Kerk

(spoken by Kerstin Draeger in the radio play ) [ GH Stone (invented) / Brigitte-Johanna Henkel-Waidhofer (deepened)]

Lys is Justus' girlfriend according to the episode "... and the attack by computer viruses" . She is an 18 year old actress. Jupiter gives Lys a few small jobs every now and then. She helps the three question marks in the episode "... and the crazy painter" and gives them some cases. She later moved to New York to study, but returned to Rocky Beach in the " Empty Grave " case . Since Jupiter and Lys can no longer spend time together, they split up in episode 119 after Jupiter receives a letter from Lys in New York.

In the story " High Strung ", which was written in 1990 but was not published until 2011, one learns that Lys and Justus should originally have split up after a short time and that Lys was not planned as a recurring character.

Lesley Dimple

(spoken by Ann Montenbruck and Rica Blunck in the radio play in episode 115) [Katharina Fischer]

Lesley Dimple appears for the first time in the episode " ... and the red avenger " as an intern at the Book Smith bookstore , which is victim of an arson attack. Later she is a permanent employee and helps the three question marks with their cases. She is a friend of Bob.

Jeffrey

(spoken by Kim Alexander Frank in the radio play ) Jeffrey is a friend of Peters, with whom he does a lot, partying and surfing. Although he is mentioned frequently in the plot, he has only appeared in a radio play (Der Mann ohne Kopf) himself.

Allie Jamison

(spoken by Katrin Fröhlich in the radio play ) [ MV Carey ]
Allie is a horse-loving girl who lives with her parents in the vicinity of the T. Jonas used goods center . The three question marks have a rather critical relationship to her, which is partly due to the fact that she sees herself as a detective and often tries to emulate the three. The three detectives get to know Allie Jamison in the episode " ... and the singing snake ".

opponent

Victor Hugenay

(spoken in the radio play by Wolfgang Kubach under the pseudonym Albert Giro and by Hans Irle in episode 73)

Victor Hugenay is an internationally active and sought-after art thief who has encountered the three question marks several times during her investigations. In "... and the Super Parrot" he looks for the same painting as the detectives, in "... and the strange alarm clock" he works with Jupiter to save Bob and find hidden pictures, and in "Poltergeist" he directs them Detectives from a stolen painting. Hugenay manages to escape the police every time. In "... the legacy of the master thief" he fakes his own death and lets the detectives look for hidden paintings for himself. He is arrested in "Fire Moon" thanks to the detectives. Furthermore, he is intellectually in no way inferior to the first detective, which is why he often looks like a “black reflection” of Justus. He also tries to pull the same person to the dark side, since he sees him as a worthy competitor. Hugenay has a reputation as a gentleman among thieves due to his polite and peaceful demeanor. In the three-part anniversary volume “Feuermond” much is revealed about Hugenay's past. His real name is Ignace Chander Jaccard and he is the son of a famous artist. In the films ,, The three ??? The Secret of the Ghost Island " and " The Three ??? The Cursed Castle " , however, turns up to be an unscrupulous criminal who is ready to accept the death of the three boys for his success and who is already on Justus' parents Has.

Brittany

(spoken by Dorette Hugo in the radio play ) [ André Marx ]

Brittany appears in The Legacy of the Master Thief . There she indirectly serves as a tool for Victor Hugenay, who commissioned her to get Justus to find several lost pictures for him. To this end, she conquered Justus' heart within a very short time. At the end of the case, she almost manages to get Justus by a fictitious story about a creeping illness not to hand over the pictures to the police and instead to monetize them in order to have her alleged illness treated. Her role can be revealed, but Jupiter lets her escape.

She reappears in " Feuermond ", where she serves the three question marks as (initially) a secret client. Your goal this time is to help Victor Hugenay to get his just punishment. Although she initially works with the detectives after her exposure, she betrays them at the height of the story. Thanks to Justus' foresight, however, she runs into a trap and can be arrested.

E. Skinner "Skinny" Norris

(spoken in the radio play by Andreas von der Meden and Michael Harck in episode 180)

Skinny is the "archenemy" of the three question marks. He is a few years older than the three detectives and therefore feels superior to them. He tries to annoy them and fool them, mocks them or wants to forestall them in the investigation of a case. However, he only succeeds in doing this in the rarest of cases. He is not a villain in the strict sense of the word, but rather an annoying competitor with a penchant for petty criminal activities. He is often assumed to be jealous of the three question marks. He made his biggest appearance in the anniversary episode 100, in which he anonymously forces the three question marks to help solve a riddle and thus embroiled them in their (up to then) biggest case. In this episode he even appears to be working with the three question marks for a short time.

Skinny Norris is the only character who undergoes a transformation over the course of the series. At the beginning of the series, he is just an annoying peer who wants to make fun of the three question marks with his friends, but never pursues a criminal thought. From episode 100 he develops into a criminal who then joins other criminals. He later tries every possible way to get money after his parents kicked him out of the apartment.

In the case of " The Nameless Adversary" , Norris shows a form of sympathy for Bob for the first time when he stands by him after his memory loss. Towards the end of the case it turns out that he did this because of an assignment, among other things, but the friendship that develops between him and Bob is real. That's why he even rescues the third detective from a collapsing house. Some people then claim that he used this case to win what he never had: friends.

Dick Perry

(spoken by Ernst Hilbich in the radio play ) [ Ben Nevis ]

Dick Perry is a Santa Monica private investigator. He is a plump investigator who is depicted as unsympathetic and who thinks a lot of himself, but rarely works in a legal way. He is hostile to the three question marks. In the episode " Poison by E-Mail " he kidnaps a friend of the three. In the episode " Ghost Canyon " he is assigned by Mr. O'Sullivan (who commissioned the three question marks in this episode) to keep an eye on Justus, Peter and Bob so that they don't find out any details. He is notorious for doing anything for lack of money. In " ... and the three days " he applies in the sub-section " Stranger Friend " as a replacement for Peter, announcing that he can replace the detective agency completely - but he is rejected. He also appears in the sub-section " In the sign of the knights " and competes with the three detectives.

Dr. Clarissa Franklin

(spoken by Judy Winter in the radio play ) [ André Minninger ]

Dr. Franklin is an unscrupulous psychologist with whom Bob is especially connected. For the first time, the three question marks in the story “ Voices from Nowhere ” meet her, in which Bob lets himself be hypnotized by her. In " Rufmord " she has come to the psychiatry herself because of her pill addiction, where Bob visits her - this time Dr. Franklin both perpetrator and victim. After her discharge from the clinic, Clarissa Franklin has her third appearance in " Signals from the Beyond ".

Wilbur Graham

(spoken by Thomas Bammer in the radio play ) [ André Marx ]

Wilbur Graham is an unprofessional journalist for the LA Tribune . He criticizes the three question marks in his articles by not missing a chance to certify the three of them are incapable of detective work. For the first time he appears in " The Legacy of the Master Thief ". After Brittany captured Justus' heart on behalf of Victor Hugenay, the three question marks had to face the reporter's ridicule. In an incident at the museum, he blackened the three detectives of the attempted picture theft. In the case of " Fire Moon ", Graham tries to get an interview with the three question marks, but he does not succeed. He needs the interview for a book project on Hugenay.

William M. Gray

(spoken by Urs Affolter in the radio play) [ Kari Erlhoff ]

Mr. Gray is an influential wheelchair-bound businessman who describes himself as the 'Napoleon of Crime', equating himself with Moriarty, the archenemy of Sherlock Holmes in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous books. Mr. Gray believes that he has found an equal opponent in Justus and addresses him in "Message from the Underworld" as Holmes and Peter and Bob as Watsons. By registering for the marathon and arresting Uncle Titus on false accusations, he gets Justus to act on his behalf. He plays a key role in the episodes “Message from the Underworld” and also in “The Street of Horror”.

(only one appearance in the radio play, in episode 89, spoken there by Manfred Reddemann )

In addition, it annoys him that they don't have to pay for his services themselves. He appears in the episodes " ... and the curse of the ruby " and " Deadly Trail ". Among other things, in the booklet of the radio play on “ Tödliche Spur ” and in the book “ The Diva's Secret ”, Mr. Gelbert becomes Mr. Gilbert. However, this is a typographical error.

Appearances

The following table shows the episodes in which the minor characters appear. The numbering of the books applies , as sometimes characters appear in certain episodes only in the book, but not in the radio play. In this case the sequence number is in brackets. This does not apply to episodes that have not yet been released as a radio play (as of August 2011).

The figures are sorted according to the time of entry. Special volumes such as the Top Secret Edition , " ... and the ghost lamp" , and " ... and the three day" are not considered.
