action
The three ??? are invited to South Africa by Peter's father . Here he is hired by the wealthy Miss Wilbur as an architect to build an amusement park on the ghost island off Cape Town . Even the first exploration of the island ensures that the detectives end their vacation early, because they witness how a monster named Tokolosh attacks and injures the client. Wilbur's security guards blame Gamba, a native of the Xhosa tribe who call the island the sacred site of his ancestors, responsible for the attack and arrest him. Gamba's daughter Chris (a boy from Greece in the book ) asks Jupiter, Peter and Bob for help in proving their father's innocence. As all three boys quickly warm up to the girl, they accept the case and embark on an adventure of crime and treasure hunt.

Reviews
",The three ??? - The Secret of the Ghost Island 'directed by the' Student Oscar 'winner Florian Baxmeyer (' The Red Jacket ') looks like an advertising trailer from the South Africa Ministry of Tourism, pimped with set pieces of plot. "
"In a successful mixture of adventure and mystery, Florian Baxmeyer (winner of the student Oscar for 'The Red Jacket') brings the young detectives 'Die Drei ???', famous from books and radio plays. for the first time on the big screen. Although the story has little to do with the original, it comes across as entertaining and with youthful wit. "
"The fast-paced children's thriller with fun factor for young and old has a lot to offer, shows the facets of South Africa from the fine white mansion to the black townships, with clever kids chasing criminals in the middle."
"Visually large children's cinema: fresh, exciting and with great attention to detail"
"Successful cinema adaptation of a classic youth book series [...] 'The Secret of the Ghost Island' is not only told in a very captivating way for young cinema viewers, parents and grown-up fans also get their money's worth. This is due to the successful adaptation and the lovable references to great movie role models: from James Bond to Indiana Jones. "
“Anyone who sets out to film the cosmos of the 'Three Question Marks' is entering a mined area. Because all those who grew up with the three question marks, who [...] have long since made their own inner picture of the detectives, especially through the massively distributed radio plays, react extremely sensitively to attempts to give this world a face. The fact that Florian Baxmeyer dares to do it anyway is to be credited to him, and the result is also surprisingly balanced: there is an exciting children's thriller for novices that those who have a heart for 'Indiana Jones' will like, and for the friends of the detectives Rocky Beach, the creators smuggle a lot of inside knowledge into the film. "
“Baxmeyer brings together Indiana Jones and James Bond, first love and action and lots of humor. We could have done without the racial index finger. And that's not always logical either, fast-paced and already involved. The three of them have nothing to do with our old friends from Rocky Beach (they are just too young), but twelve-year-olds won't mind. "
“With this Hollywood-style adaptation, Studio Hamburg has succeeded in making an old-fashioned detective film that is great fun for today's children. But grown-up fans should rather stop listening to the tapes, because anyone who suddenly sees the detective trio in person on the screen will quickly lose their very own idea of the radio play cult. And finally, the film makes another decisive change: Jupiter kisses a girl! Would that have ever been possible in a radio play? "
“The film adaptation of 'The Three ??? - The Secret of the Ghost Island 'has become a film for children and young people. In this category he is good to very good. And the fact that two more films are already in preparation for the theatrical release shows how sure the makers are that the films will inspire new fans. The perhaps disappointed old fans still have the radio play cassettes as a consolation "
"Clever mix of 'Indiana Jones' and teen adventure"
Age rating | There are some exciting scenes in the film, starting with the elevator scene right at the entrance to the dark scenes in the cave and the showdown when the detectives are locked in the grave, free themselves under time pressure and finally have to do a paragliding flight, in which they even run the risk of falling for a short time. However, all these scenes are resolved relatively quickly and were therefore judged to be unsustainable. It was relieving that the team always sticks together and that it is sometimes quite easy to see how the story will develop further, or that a happy ending is out of the question (approved for ages 12 and up) |

“Crime and adventure film based on the popular radio play series, which comes up primarily with puns and fairly tangible action scenes. A conventional mystery story without elaborated characters, carelessly and soullessly staged. "
