Andreas Erich Beurmann (born February 12, 1928 in Sopot , now Poland , † April 24, 2016 in Altenkrempe ) was a German musicologist and co-founder of the radio play publisher Europa .

Life

After graduating from high school, Andreas E. Beurmann studied musicology and physics as a minor at the Universities of Cologne and Göttingen . There he was in 1953 with the dissertation The Piano Sonatas Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1961 he founded the record company Miller International together with Wilhelm Wille and David L. Miller . A short time later, the radio play label Europe , which he had largely devised, was created . The idea for the label name was based on the process of European unification, which was still in its infancy, and which was a matter close to his heart. He made the "EUROPA" trademark with its then still rectangular frame until it was ready for printing. During this time Beurmann also began to build up an important collection of historical keyboard instruments. Some of the pieces can be seen in the Museum of Art and Industry in Hamburg .

After studying musicology and physics, Andreas Beurmann began as a lecturer in the 1978 summer semester with an internship in "Electronic sound generation and digital storage (development of electronic musical works)" and in the following semesters did internships and exercises in instrument science (with a focus on harpsichords, gavel pianos, modern keyboard instruments) and on various areas of "music electronics" (not only instruments such as synthesizers and samplers, but also recording technology in the studio and the production of sheet music with the help of computers). This extensive, voluntary and unpaid teaching activity prompted the Academic Senate of the University of Hamburg to appoint Andreas Beurmann as professor on November 23, 1989. He was thus entitled to hold courses in the subject of systematic musicology, as well as to supervise magistrates and doctoral students and to hold the corresponding exams. His teaching activity did not end until 2000 - he had given it up in favor of his unique works on old keyboard instruments and pianos.

In 1979 Beurmann married Heikedine Körting , who among other things works as a director of the Europa Children's Radio Drama. Together they restored the historic Hasselburg estate in Ostholstein with the 14th century moated castle, which was converted into a representative mansion around 1700. The large manor barn restored by Beurmann is available for the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival .

Under the collective pseudonyms ( Bert Brac , Ralph Bonda and Phil Moss ), which were also used for the music of Carsten Bohn , Andreas E. Beurmann composed melodies for the European radio plays. He also worked as a speaker under the name of Hans Meinhardt . His best-known role is that of Uncle Titus , whom he played in Die Drei ??? from 1979 until his death in 2016. embodied.
