Hugo Egon Balder (actually Egon Hugo Balder ; born March 22, 1950 in West Berlin ) is a German television presenter , television producer , musician , actor and cabaret artist . He is best known as the moderator of the shows Alles Nothing Or ?! , Tutti Frutti , Die Hit-Giganten and the quiz show Genial besides .

Life

Hugo Egon Balder is the son of Egon Friedrich and Gerda Balder, b. Schure. Gerda was Jewish and survived the Theresienstadt concentration camp with her mother Johanne Schure and son Peter from their first marriage . Her first husband Walter Leyserson was murdered in Auschwitz concentration camp .

Balder grew up on Semperstrasse in Berlin-Friedenau . From the age of four to twelve he took piano lessons, followed by two years of drum lessons. In his youth he played drums in "The Earls". In 1967, as a drummer, he was one of the founding members of the band Birth Control , which was made up of "The Earls" and "The Gents". After studying art and graphics, Balder attended Else Bongers' private drama school in Berlin from 1973 to 1976 .

He was married for the first time in the 1980s, then for two years in the early 1990s with a French woman and from 1993 to 1998 with a woman from Cologne. He was married to Meral Canan for the fourth time from 2000 to 2011, with whom he has a daughter, Saliha (* 2000), and a son, Canel (* 2001). He had met the waitress during the production of the RTL comedy show Saturday Night . In July 2017, Balder appeared with his children as well as Jacky Dreksler and Pete York in the WDR showIch stelle mich ” with presenter Sandra Maischberger , in which he revealed an insight into his private life. In August 2019, Balder entered into his fifth marriage with his partner Elena Sumischewskaja.

Since 2010 he has been a partner in the Zwick pub at Hamburg's Millerntor . There, from April 6, 2015 to November 14, 2015, his show idea Der Klügere Kipppt nach was produced and broadcast live on Tele 5 .

Balder volunteers for the German bone marrow donor database ; Together with Hella von Sinnen and Bernhard Hoëcker, he promoted stem cell donation nationwide on posters in 2009.

In September 2018 he was one of the first to sign a declaration calling on Horst Seehofer to resign from the office of Federal Minister of the Interior. In the right-wing conservative Catholic weekly newspaper Die Tagespost he was accused of having an “exaggerated self-image” as a “cultural worker”.

Balder lives in Cologne.

Career

Beginnings as a musician and cabaret artist

He was one of the founding members of the Krautrock band Birth Control , where he worked as a drummer until 1968. Balder belonged to the ensemble of the Berlin Schiller Theater from 1973 to 1979 . In 1982 he appeared with the title Schwarzfahren in the music show Disco moderated by Ilja Richter . In 1983, Balder was in the follow-up show, Beware, to hear music alongside Frank Zander as the voice of the hand puppet Mr. Feldmann . In 1985 Balder joined the ensemble of the Düsseldorf cabaret " Kom (m) ödchen ", where he designed program cabaret together with Lore Lorentz and Harald Schmidt . He also hired himself as a pop singer and had a commercial success with the single Erna comes , a cover version of the title by Wolfgang Lippert . The song entered the German airplay charts in November 1984 and reached number 19 there.

Moderator and producer at RTL

Balder gained his first experience as a presenter with various radio broadcasts on Radio Luxembourg's “4 happy waves” . Here meal , in which Balder played out his origins in cabaret by participating in numerous skits, became the most successful show. His co-host and sketch partner was Inga Abel . In 1998 he presented the RTL Saturday evening show Fata Morgana - The desert Orientshow , and in 2002 he hosted the dance marathon show on 9Live .

New start at Sat.1

From January 2003 to October 2011 Balder moderated and produced the comedy quiz Genial besides broadcast by Sat.1 . From 2003 to 2009 he was also the presenter of the chart and music show Die Hit-Giganten . On September 29, 2007 he hosted the event show Volltreffer! Sink ships XXL . Together with Hella von Sinnen, Balder moderated other event shows on Sat.1, such as the game shows Promi nicht ärgere dich nicht , Now is holed , Now is lathered and now it's time to go to the hype .

As a producer, Balder and Jacky Dreksler were responsible for two episodes of the music show Taratata that were broadcast on Sat.1 at the end of 2004 and the comedy show Talk im Tudio (later: The hot porridge ), which has since been discontinued .

In 2008, Balder hosted the musical casting show Ich Tarzan du Jane . In this format, the two main roles for the German edition of the musical Tarzan were searched. In December 2008 he hosted the show Who last laughs ...? , a comedy review of the year 2008. On April 3, 2009, with Dirk Bach , he hosted the program Happy Birthday Hella on Sat.1 , an event for Hella von Sinnen on the occasion of her 50th birthday.

Since March 2017, Sat.1 has been broadcasting new episodes of Genial besides , Balder is back as a presenter. Since 2018 he has moderated the spin-off of Genial Daneben Genial daneben - Das Quiz .

Back on the radio

On January 28, 2013, Balder hosted the opening show as part of the radio series The Return of the Radio Legends on Radio Eins . Since 2016 he has also been featured daily in the radio series Hugo Egon Balders Zeitmaschine - the stories behind the songs can be heard in over 300 episodes, a.o. a. at Antenne Brandenburg from RBB, at MDR 1 Radio Sachsen, WDR4 and other radio stations. The series deals with the creation of the cult hits of the eighties .

In 2016, Balder played the pop singer Frank Butze in the ARD series In all friendship in the episode Spott und Ruhm . 2017 he had in the third episode of RTL - Sitcom Not to get dead , with Jochen Busse in the lead role, a cameo appearance.
