Hatch! The school and I - VIPs to Kids is a German comedy - quiz show which of Luke Mockridge moderated by brainpool produced and Sat.1 will broadcast. In each episode there are two teams of celebrities and students from different grades who compete against each other and have to answer or solve questions and tasks on different school subjects. The first episode aired on May 5, 2017.
concept
In each episode, a team of four celebrities and three teams of four students compete against each other. The student teams are each from a primary school as well as from a middle and upper level. In clips, Mockridge is shown in the various schools where he is looking for students for the show.
Each school year presents a question or game round. The G8 school system was selected - a mode with a total of twelve game rounds. The four students from primary school play in the first four game rounds for the student team, the four students from the middle school for game rounds five to eight and the four students from the upper school for game rounds nine to twelve. The ascending number of the school year corresponds to the number of points to be won in the respective game. The respective winner receives one point in the first school year, two points in the second school year, etc. By means of a buzzer that is pressed by the team with fewer points, a school subject is selected per school year from which the respective question or the respective Game acts. Since the third season, the subject has been selected without a buzzer. In game rounds with laboratory tests, Konrad Stöckel appears as a questioner, as well as Luke's former sports teacher Mr. Gemeiner when it comes to tasks in the school subject of sports.
At the end there is the final or the final exam, in which each team can earn a total of 78 points. The four high school students answer the questions for the student team. A question is alternately asked to a team member. The scoring system and the difficulty levels of the questions are the same as in the previous rounds.
In the end, the team that received the most points after the final round wins 20,000 euros (25,000 euros in the first season) for its school or former school.

criticism
The reviews are mostly positive. Above all, Luke Mockridge is highly praised as a presenter. The concept and title of the show are partly criticized.
“Luke Mockridge is hosting his first big prime time show on Sat.1 and is doing a really good job. "Luke! The school and me" is authentic and entertaining, if only it wasn't for this unimaginative show title. "
“While the concept in terms of school grades might come up with a satisfactory, Mockridge comes off with a smooth one - very good. The bottom line is that the school grade remains two for the overall package, good. [...] For the time being, however, the show coped with its transfer without any problems. "
Audience ratings
On average, 1.92 million (6.5 percent) of the total audience watched the first season of the show on Sat.1. In the target group of 14 to 49 year olds, an average of 1.14 million was measured and this led to a market share of a very good 13.0 percent.
