Municipal area

Districts of Raesfeld

The Raesfeld municipality includes the villages of Raesfeld, Erle and the northern part of the former municipality of Overbeck. There are also the farming communities Freiheit, Winkelschulte, Westrich, Homer , Brink, Möllmann, Femeiche, Östrich, Brook and Löchte.

Neighboring communities

The immediate neighboring towns and villages of Raesfeld are Rhede , Borken and Heiden in the Borken district , Dorsten in the Recklinghausen district and Schermbeck and Hamminkeln in the Wesel district .

history

Raesfeld was first mentioned in a document in 889 as "Hrothusfeld" in the records of the Werden Abbey .

Around 1117 a tower hill castle , called Burg Kretier , was built north of the small town in the middle of an inaccessible swamp area . The first known lord of the castle was Rabodo von dem Berge around 1170. He was probably also the founder of the Raesfeld Church around which today's village was built. Soon after the castle was sold to the knight Symon von Gemen in 1259, the castle burned down. Instead, Symon built a new castle on the site of today's castle and then called itself Symon von Rasvelde .

In a sequel to the Münster collegiate feud , Bocholt town servants stormed the village in the summer of 1458 and burned the church tower down. The reconstruction could be financed with letters of indulgence until 1515. In 1560 another fire destroyed large parts of the village.

The castle Raesfeld came after the death of John IV. Raesfeld Raesfeld to the late 16th century to the related with him Lords of Velen to Velen . Alexander II. Count von Velen zu Raesfeld , the Westphalian Wallenstein , achieved a high reputation during the Thirty Years' War and expanded the old castle from 1643 to 1658 into a residential palace . However, during the Thirty Years 'War and a hundred years later in the Seven Years' War, the village suffered several times from occupation, looting and billeting by soldiers from different sides. Like no other Stephan Selhorst, who emphasized the early baroque composition of the structural members, appreciated the importance of the Raesfeld Castle.

Under Mayor Roessing, debts totaling four million D-Marks were reduced by July 5, 1993. Since then, Raesfeld has been debt-free and thus today (2012) the only debt-free municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The municipality of Raesfeld has been a member of the LEADER region Lippe-Issel Niederrhein and the Hohe Mark Nature Park since 2008. The headquarters of the Hohe Mark Nature Park are located in the Nature Park House Tiergarten Schloss Raesfeld, Tiergarten 1 in Raesfeld. The community has been a member of the VITAL Region Hohe Mark, Living in the Nature Park, since 2014.

Religions

Christianity

In the Raesfeld part of the community there are two parishes, one Catholic (St. Martin in the parish association with Rhedebrugge and Erle) with the parish church of St. Martin and the affiliated branch churches of St. Maria Immaculata in Rhedebrugge and St. Silvester in Erle. The chapel of Raesfeld Castle, St. Sebastian, is also part of the parish. The Protestant parish with the Lukaskirche in Erle was founded in 2012 as a parish of the Ev. Parish assigned to parishes.

Judaism

A Jewish community existed in Raesfeld until 1939. The synagogue, which was built in 1806 including the mikveh , fell victim to the so-called Reichspogromnacht in 1938. The National Socialist city administration used their stones in road construction. The place where it stood for over 130 years was leveled and then built over. Only a few members of the synagogue community survived the persecution of Nazi rule; most perished in the Auschwitz concentration camp . A few references today are reminiscent of Jewish life in Raesfeld, including the foundation of the mikveh mentioned above.

Incorporations

Today's Raesfeld community was established between 1969 and 1975. On July 1, 1969, Homer was incorporated. Alder , until then in the Recklinghausen district, and the northern part of Overbeck were added on January 1, 1975.
