Coat of arms, banner and flag
The municipality of Legden was granted the right to use a coat of arms and a flag in a certificate issued by the District President in Münster on March 5, 1970.
Coat of arms of the former community of Asbeck
coat of arms
Blazon : “Divided from gold (yellow) to blue to silver (white). In the middle in blue three six-pointed golden (yellow) stars, of which the middle one is slightly raised; below in silver (white) two rows of red diamonds slanted to the right. "
The new municipality of Legden took over the coat of arms of the old Legden office from 1957. The coat of arms is based on the coat of arms of the former communities Asbeck (Rauten, Haus Asbeck) and Legden (stars, based on the seal of Johann von Legden from 1348), supplemented by the golden one Beam of the bishopric of Münster , to which the community formerly belonged.
banner
Description of the banner: "Flag with the municipal coat of arms and the colors blue and silver (white)." This imprecise description of the main statute does not provide any information as to whether a flag, a banner or both is being used. There is also no distribution of the tracks and their relationship. In fact, the community carries a banner as follows: "From blue to white to blue in a ratio of 1: 3: 1, striped lengthways, in the middle of the upper half of the white strip the coat of arms of the community."
flag
Description of the flag: "Stripes from blue to white to blue in a ratio of 1: 3: 1, in the middle of the white strip the coat of arms of the municipality."
Partner communities
- Steenderen in the Netherlands was a partner church . In 2005, Steenderen became part of the new Bronckhorst community . With this, the parish partnership also expired.
- Since 2007 the new sister church is Melrose in Minnesota, USA.
Culture and sights
Buildings
The Hunnenporte , the former dormitory , the van Wüllen house , the Düstermühle , the bailiwick and the collegiate church of St. Margareta are still preserved today as former buildings of the Asbeck Abbey .
The Hunnenporte is a half-timbered building that previously served as a gatehouse to the monastery grounds. The name is derived from the pen's dog kennels that used to be housed there. Today the building serves as an event room and houses the furnace museum. Worth seeing churches in Legden are the parish church of St. Brigida on Kirchplatz, built in the 13th century , which belonged to the monastery until 1805. In 1905 the defense tower was demolished and replaced by a neo-Romanesque transept. The church of St. Margareta is a subsidiary church of St. Brigida and a former collegiate church . Two different styles can be clearly recognized on the church: While the nave, which dates from the 12th century, follows the Romanesque architectural style, the choir and transept from the first half of the 13th century show the Gothic style. The Egelborg Altar in the side aisle, a relief from 1476 showing the Gregorius Mass , and grave slabs of the Barons von Oer excavated during the Restoration in 1905 are worth seeing . The middle choir window from the 13th century, which shows the family tree of Jesus ( root Jesse window), could also be preserved. The approx. 800 year old dormitory of the former monastery under the sponsorship of the Asbeck Heimatverein serves today as a monastery museum and wedding room. The former residence of the abbesses, known today as "Haus van Wüllen", was built in the 12th century. A room built in 1340 is considered the oldest half-timbered room in Northern Germany. It also contains a coat of arms hall and a speech grille that has been preserved from the 14th century. The house, in which there are showcases with exhibits from that time, can be visited.
The moated castle Haus Egelborg , first mentioned in 1389 , is located about one kilometer southwest of the town center . The oldest building, built in 1559, is the north wing. The moated castle has been owned by the Barons von Oer since 1670. A hiking trail through the Egelborg Forest leads past the moated castle and the extensive landscape park that belongs to it.
In September 2015, the approx. 4000 m² large dahlia garden with 160 dahlia varieties was opened in the center of the community . The construction of the garden was a project as part of the participation in the Regionale 2016 and was funded by the Leader funding program of the European Union.
On the outskirts of Legden you will find the "Big Linden Tree", a former dancing linden tree that was split in two after a lightning strike in 1979 and has been held together with wire ropes and poles ever since.
Since 2009, six stumbling blocks in Legden have been a reminder of the persecution of Jews under the Nazis . On the main street they commemorate Moritz, Rika and Karl Seligmann, as well as the only survivor, Grete Eichenwald. The memorial stones on Kirchstrasse remember Jettchen Rosenbaum and Bertha Neuberg.
The Düstermühle in the Wehr district, first mentioned in the 12th century, is located directly on the Dinkel. It belonged to the Asbeck Abbey and served, among other things, as a court venue and is traditionally the venue for the Düstermühlenmarkt , which is still held annually on the last Monday in August.
On the outskirts of the community you will find the party village Dorf Münsterland - the leisure facility is a leisure and party village.
Regular events
Rosendahl is for his children Dahlia flower processions ( DahlKiBluko known). This takes place every three years on the 3rd Sunday in September, most recently on September 17, 2017. Some associations and neighborhoods in the community are preparing motif wagons. This festival was initiated especially for the children by the Vicar Entrup at the time. The dahlia is thus the symbol of the community.
Fly market is the name of a street in Legden, which is probably derived from the horse market that used to take place there. Every first Tuesday in August, the neighborhood fly market holds a social festival.
The Schnadegang takes place annually on May 1st in Asbeck.
Public facilities
Legden has a volunteer fire brigade with fire engines in Legden and Asbeck.
education
There are three Catholic kindergartens (St. Brigida-, St. Margareta- and St. Martin-Kindergarten), as well as the day care center Dandelion run by a parents' initiative.
In Legden there is also a network elementary school with two locations: the Brigidenschule works in three classes at its main location in Legden and has around 250 students. At the neighboring location of Asbeck, the former Margaret School, around 60 pupils are looked after in three different year classes. The school is run by the city.
The Legden-Rosendahl secondary school (SLR) is a comprehensive school for grades 5 - 10. For the upper level, there is cooperation with institutions in Coesfeld and Ahaus . In Legden, grades 5 and 6 are schooled with around 160 students, grades 7 to 10 in Rosendahl-Osterwick. Approximately 350 students attend this location.
