Oliver Kirch (born August 21, 1982 in Soest ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach . He preferred to play in midfield , either as a defensive midfielder or on the right flank, but could also act as a right full-back in defense . He was under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund , among others . Today he is assistant coach for Arminia Bielefeld's second team.

Career

Kirch grew up in the Dortmund district of Körne and in Legden in the Münsterland region and began playing football with the SuS Legden children at the age of five. He stayed there for nine years and has been a member of the association for over 25 years. For the B-youth he switched to SuS Stadtlohn and for the A-youth to SpVgg Vreden .

Via SC Verl came to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 2003/04 season and received a professional contract. In his first year as a professional he was used eight times. From autumn 2004 he was out for over eight months because of a knee injury. On August 18, 2006, Kirch was in the Bundesliga game against 1. FC Nürnberg for the first time since September 2003. In 2007 he left the club and moved to Arminia Bielefeld , for whom he scored his first Bundesliga goal in his first game.

Kirch joined the season 2010/11 for 1. FC Kaiserslautern , with whom he signed a three-year contract. FCK attracted attention as a newcomer this season with victories against FC Bayern (2: 0), Schalke 04 (5: 0) and a 3: 3 draw after 0: 3 deficit against VfB Stuttgart . Kirch was involved in these games and was used in a total of 29 league games. He played in various positions, most commonly in right or central midfield and as a right-back. The team held the class and at the end of the season achieved 7th place in the table. In the next season, the FCK could not free itself from the relegation zone and last remained in the last place in the table for several weeks. Kirch was initially back as a regular player, but lost this role at the beginning of the second half of the season. On April 21, 2012 (32nd matchday) he scored his only Bundesliga goal for FCK against Hertha BSC in a 2-1 away win.

For the 2012/13 season , Kirch switched to the then German champions Borussia Dortmund and signed a two-year contract until June 30, 2014, which was extended in May 2014 for another two years until June 30, 2016. In December 2012, he made his Champions League debut in a 1-0 win over Manchester City . On April 27, 2014, he scored his first goal for BVB against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2-2). Kirch played a total of 30 competitive games for BVB, scoring two goals and preparing two goals. In another 48 meetings he was in the squad. Despite good performances, Kirch did not get beyond the role as a substitute player.

On August 30, 2015 he moved to the second division and first division relegated SC Paderborn 07 , with whom he signed a two-year contract. Since his contract did not apply to the 3rd division after the relegation of SC Paderborn , Kirch ended his professional career on July 6, 2016.

Kirch has been a trainer at Arminia Bielefeld since the beginning of 2018. Initially employed as assistant coach of the second team, he acted as assistant coach of the U17s in the 2018/19 season. At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, he took over the U19 as a coach and at the beginning of 2020 he switched to the position of development coach as a link between the youth and professional areas.
