The Westfalen-Blatt is a German regional daily newspaper with headquarters in Bielefeld . The full name of the corporate group is Westfalen-Blatt Vereinigte Zeitungsverlage GmbH & Co. KG . It is a subsidiary of Westfälische Medien Holding AG . The sold circulation is 100,957 copies, a decrease of 28.4 percent since 1998.

history

Since it was licensed in 1946, the paper has been in the possession of the Busse family, who have recently been running the newspaper under the name of Busse-Holding. The shareholders Erika, Harald and Sabine Busse hold the shares of 46.1 percent together with Michael Best. In 2004, Axel Springer Verlag acquired a minority share of 14.5 percent. This means that the Busse family with its Busse holding company still has a stake of 85.5%. In November 2009, Axel Springer AG sold its share again to the publisher Dirk Ippen . In July 2011, the Aschendorff group of companies from Münster , which publishes the Westfälische Nachrichten , among others , bought a further 24.9% . The cartel office approved the takeover in January 2012.

As of January 1, 2019, the Westfalen-Blatt merged its entire business into a joint Westfälische Medien Holding AG. The Aschendorff Group brings its media business in the areas of daily newspapers, advertising papers, printing and radio to this new holding company. Under the umbrella of Westfälische Medien Holding AG, the structures of both companies in Münsterland and East Westphalia will remain unchanged as part of this merger.

The Westfalen-Blatt is considered to be rather bourgeois-conservative.

The Westfalen-Blatt , like most German newspapers in recent years to rest lost. The circulation sold has decreased by an average of 1.5% per year over the past 10 years. In the Herford area the Westfalen-Blatt appears under the title Herford Kreisblatt , Vlothoer Zeitung (formerly Vlothoer Tageblatt ). In the Paderborn district it is the Westfälische Volksblatt and in Schlangen the Schlänger Zeitung . In the Paderborn, Höxter, Warburg area, as well as in Herford, Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock, Steinhagen and Werther, the respective newspapers are market leaders in terms of circulation.

Around 60,000 newspaper pages are printed each year, around a third of which are advertising pages.

The most important competitor of the Westfalen-Blatt is the Neue Westfälische, also based in Bielefeld .

Panorama Verlags- und Werbegesellschaft mbH is part of the Westfalen-Blatt group of companies. This is the editor of numerous advertising papers in the circulation area of ​​the Westfalen-Blatt. This includes in particular the editions of OWL am Sonntag and Paderborner Zeitung . The newspapers OWL on Wednesday and OWL on Thursday were discontinued.
