Ewald Böckenhoff (born June 19, 1929 in Raesfeld ; † July 20, 2005 in Filderstadt ) was an agricultural market economist and longstanding advisor to the German ministers of agriculture and the European Commission .

biography

Böckenhoff comes from a farming family in the western Münsterland, attended the grammar school in Borken , studied agriculture at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from 1951 , passed the diploma examination in 1954 and was initially employed at the institute for agricultural management. In Bonn he became a member of the student association KDSt.V. Borusso-Westfalia Bonn. After joining the Institute for Agricultural Market Research at the Agricultural Research Institute “FAL” in Braunschweig-Völkenrode in 1955, Böckenhoff, under the influence of Roderich Plate, devoted himself exclusively to the problems of agricultural markets. There he completed his dissertation on a market economy topic, which he submitted to Heinrich Niehaus and thus obtained his doctorate.

During Böckenhoff's many years of activity in Völkenrode, there was close cooperation with Roderich Plate. When he was appointed to the Hohenheim Agricultural University in 1963 , Böckenhoff also moved there. In Hohenheim he worked as a research assistant at the newly created Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, completed his habilitation in 1969 with a topic in agricultural research and taught in the field of the European agricultural market. In 1972 he was appointed professor and, after Plate's retirement, was appointed his successor and director of the Institute for Agricultural Policy and Agricultural Market Studies, which he remained until his retirement in 1994.

Böckenhoff's list of publications and that of his numerous doctoral students is long. Most of the time it is a question of investigations into markets for cattle, milk and milk products. The largest number of his articles appeared in the journal "Agrarwirtschaft". Böckenhoff was co-editor of this magazine for many years.

Awards

For his achievements, he was in 1989 with the Wilhelm Niklas medal of the Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forestry , 1995 with the State Medal of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg awarded the gold.
