State medal for agriculture and forestry

The State Medal for Agriculture and Forestry is an award that has existed since 1818 in what is today the state of Baden-Württemberg and can be awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of agriculture and forestry. The medal has a diameter of forty millimeters and shows the small state coat of arms with the three Staufer lions and the inscription "Ministry for Rural Areas and Food" on the obverse . On the back there are two ears of wheat and the text "For special merits".

history

The medal is awarded by the Ministry of Rural Areas, Food and Consumer Protection . The date of the award is during the main agricultural festival in Stuttgart , which takes place every four years .

When the main agricultural festival was founded, the second king of the Kingdom of Württemberg, Wilhelm I, offered a prize. This price was intended to be an incentive for the Württemberg subject to use a technical invention to increase productivity in cattle breeding , which in the king's opinion was the most important area of ​​agriculture in his kingdom.

The wife of the Württemberg king and daughter of the Russian tsar Paul I. Katharina Pawlowna donated a cash prize and the corresponding silver medal. The sum of money was forty ducats . The prize was awarded according to the criteria of the time for the invention and manufacture of a machine that was used in agriculture, domestic or general technical use.

The personality to be honored should as a rule be over the age of 50 and have achieved special or outstanding services in the management of an agricultural and forestry business. The medal is available in the following versions:
