Norbert Schoch

Norbert Schoch (born May 5, 1932 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † October 22, 2008 ibid) was a German lawyer and politician .

Norbert Schoch studied law at the University of Tübingen and was there in 1958 with the dissertation The reintroduction and exercise of public Roman Catholic worship in the County of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg in the 17th and 18th centuries, compared with the provisions of the Peace of Westphalia and the Hohenlohe house contracts to the Dr. iur. PhD.

After the sudden death of his predecessor Hans Ludwig Scheffold 1969, Schoch presented to the mayoral elections in Schwabisch Gmund and was elected with 87.5% agreement and confirmed in 1977 with about 98% in office. He renounced a third term and retired as a lawyer in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Schoch held the office of president of the forest chamber of the state of Baden-Württemberg for a long time and held the post of chairman of the supervisory board of the Württemberg municipal insurance .

For his services he was awarded the State Medal for Agriculture and Forestry . Schoch was buried in the family grave at the Leonhard Cemetery in Gmünd .

Great services are attributed to Schoch in the field of housing construction. Under him, among other things, the residential areas Bettringen-Nordwest , Schwäbisch Gmünd-Weststadt and in Straßdorf , but also industrial areas such as the large industrial areas Gügling and Straßenäcker in Bettringen. The first pedestrian zones were installed in the city center, the Prediger cultural center opened in 1973 and the new Congress Center built in the Stadtgarten , which opened in 1984.
