Heinrich Niehaus

Heinrich Niehaus (born September 30, 1898 in Hörsten , Bersenbrück district ; † 1977 ) was a German economist and university lecturer who dealt in particular with questions of agricultural policy .

Life

After graduating from high school, Niehaus completed a degree in economics and already published fundamental works during this time, such as The Heuerleutesystem und die Heuerleutebewbewegung (1924) on the so-called Heuerling system . In 1929 he completed his doctorate as Dr. phil. at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin with a dissertation on the subject of farm sizes and their mix in their operational and economic importance, presented on the conditions in the Principality of Osnabrück .

After that, he worked temporarily for Max Sering , the director of the German Research Institute for Agriculture and Settlement in Berlin, before accepting a professorship at the University of Rostock . In the mid-1930s he became director of the Institute for Agriculture and Settlement there and held this position until he was replaced by Asmus Petersen in 1944.

In 1937 another agricultural doctorate followed at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg with a dissertation on the subject of the importance of calcium sulfide in blast furnace slag and its influence on vegetation . Together with Friedrich Wilhelm Maier-Bode , from 1947 he published the booklets for agricultural science and agricultural policy .

He later became a professor of agricultural policy and economics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . At the same time he was director of the local institute for agricultural policy, market research and economic sociology and was one of the founding members of the German-Taiwanese Society.

In November 1961 he succeeded Carl Troll as Rector of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Bonn and gave his inaugural address on November 18, 1961 on the subject of the glamor and misery of scientific agricultural policy . In 1962 the legal scholar Hans Welzel took over the office of rector .

In the 1960s he also dealt with the agricultural policy of the European Economic Community (EEC).
