Pop 2000 was a 12-part documentary series on the subject of 50 years of pop music and youth culture in Germany . It was first broadcast in 1999.
content
The series documented the development of music and youth culture in East and West Germany - from rock 'n' roll , beat music and krautrock to punk , disco and Neue Deutsche Welle to techno and contemporary German rock and pop music . The music of the GDR was also taken into account. The forms of the different styles and subcultures were mostly presented against the background of historical events from the post-war period to the 1968 movement and the fall of the Berlin Wall up to the turn of the millennium.
A large number of contemporary witnesses were interviewed for the project, including a. Excerpts from the interviews were shown between historical original recordings. Off- screen speaker was Otto Sander .

The series was produced by MME - Me, Myself & Eye Entertainment GmbH, musik komm. and the WDR. The project was supported by the Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen , VIVA and the Deutsche Phonoakademie . In addition, an 8-CD box ( Grönland Records ) was created for the broadcast, as well as the compilation That's only available once .

The series received the Adolf Grimme Prize in 2000 . Jörg A. Hoppe accepted the award on behalf of MME / musik komm for the idea and production . on the other hand, Rolf Bringmann (WDR) was awarded for the coordinating overall editorial team. In addition, Christian Bettges , Frank Jastfelder , Stefan Kloos , Tom Theunissen and Simone Adelsbach received the special award from the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Urban Development, Culture and Sport of North Rhine-Westphalia .
