The Conger was the first plastic dinghy in Germany in 1965 . The design is a variant of the Hawk that was further developed with the Olympic sailor Ullrich Libor . It was manufactured at the Blohm & Voss shipyard until 1971 , then at Condor-Yachtbau. Since January 1st 1978 the company Fiberglas Technik GmbH is the sole licensee for Germany. So far 3800 boats have been sold. Sail numbers 1000 to 1900 were licensed to Japan .

With its sailing properties, the Conger is suitable as a hiking, regatta and leisure dinghy.

Ship construction

The outer skin of the conger is made of glass fiber reinforced polyester using alternating glass fiber mat and glass fiber fabric in 3–6 layers. This material is break-proof, waterproof, seawater-proof and colourfast. Since the color is part of the polyester, it does not need to be renewed. To reinforce the hull, PU foam bodies are installed, which cause an additional buoyancy of 0.9 t. This makes the conger unsinkable . All fittings are made of rustproof materials such as stainless steel or aluminum. The streamlined aluminum mast has a length of 7.35 meters.

Worth mentioning

The former Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt was a prominent Conger sailor for many years on the Brahmsee in Schleswig-Holstein .
