The Brahmsee is a typical flat or lowland lake in the center of Schleswig-Holstein . It is located approx. 20 km southwest of the state capital Kiel in the Westensee Nature Park , is approx. 1 km² in size and up to 10.4 m deep. The municipality of Langwedel is located directly on the eastern bank of the lake and the municipality of Eisendorf on the southwestern bank . There are bathing spots in both Eisendorf and Langwedel.
description
In its western part, the lake merges into the Wardersee . Based on the WFD , it is a lime-rich, unstratified lake with a large catchment area (type 11).
Emergence
The lake is a glacial channel lake that dates back to the Vistula Ice Age . Together with the Pohlsee in the north and the Borgdorfer See in the south, it is part of a so-called glacial channel.
Surname
The name of the lake goes back to a Low German field name and the gorse (Low German: Bram) that was characteristic of the heathland in earlier times .
use
The lake is part of the Westensee Nature Park , a landscape area that is primarily designated for recreational use in the Schleswig-Holstein landscape plan. On the shores of the lake there are therefore many holiday homes, campsites and the youth camps Jugendheim / Zeltplatz Brahmsee and the Waldheim am Brahmsee . The lake was fished commercially until the 1990s. Today it is only used as a fishing water by recreational anglers. Brahmsee became known through the former Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt , who invited many guests from international politics and business to his weekend house there. The lake is privately owned. Driving and fishing is only permitted for residents who have purchased permission from the owner.
