Sven Väth (born October 26, 1964 in Obertshausen , Hessen ) is a German DJ , label owner and musician . He was voted the best German DJ in the readers' polls of the magazines Raveline and Groove .
Life
Sven Väth was born in 1964 as the second of three brothers. His younger brother Mike Väth (* 1967) is also active as a musician, DJ and label owner.
Sven Väth got his start as a disc jockey in his parents' dance hall Queens Pub in Neu-Isenburg , where he hung up himself after a broken locksmith apprenticeship. In 1982 Väth became a DJ in the Dorian Gray discotheque in Frankfurt Airport and stood out in the then popular discotheque with extravagant costumes and spontaneous dance interludes during the set. In 1983 he started playing at Vogue - a very well-frequented discotheque on Junghofstrasse in downtown Frankfurt - and became resident DJ there in 1984 . Stylistically, Väth moved between disco , soul and funk during this time .
In 1985 he founded the OFF project with Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti ( SNAP! ) . The second single ( Electrica Salsa ) reached high chart positions across Europe . After a tour, Sven Väth went back to the Dorian Gray in 1987 and replaced resident DJ Ulli Brenner . From then on he put on what was then known as Belgian underground techno there, later known as EBM ( Electronic Body Music ), and briefly tried himself as a producer of this music ( OFF: Be My Dream ). In 1988 Väth finished his work at Dorian Gray and went to Ibiza for a few months . After his return, he bought along with Michael Muenzing and Matthias Martinsohn the Vogue - space on the ground floor of a parking garage without proper air conditioning. They rebuilt it and opened it as an omen . The omen closed ten years later.
The first wave of techno reached Germany in the summer of 1990 . DJ Sven Väth switched from acid to techno and propagated the new sound in his “living room”, the omen .
Together with Matthias Hoffmann and Heinz Roth, he founded the Eye Q Records label in 1992 and a short time later also Harthouse and Recycle or Die. Väth toured the whole world as a DJ. 1993–1994, with An Accident in Paradise and L'Esperanza , his music turned out to be a commercial success, although most of it was tailor-made for him by other producers such as Stevie B-Zet or Ralf Hildenpaket .
In 1997 Sven Väth founded the party series Cocoon after the previous bankruptcy of his label conglomerate Eye Q Records / Harthouse . Initially there were only three events in Frankfurt am Main , Munich and Copenhagen . From 1999 the parties took place under the name "Cocoon Clubbing ", initially only in the Frankfurt U60311 , later u. a. also in the Stammheim in Kassel , Tribehouse in Neuss , Prague in Stuttgart and finally also in the Amnesia in Ibiza . In the following years, the party series was expanded to include a label and a booking agency , before Sven Väth opened the Cocoon Club, a new, lavishly designed party location in Frankfurt on July 18, 2004 , which was to set new accents in terms of interior, sound system and gastronomy . The club was named the best techno club in the reader polls carried out by Groove magazine and the Raveline magazine in December . At the end of November 2012, the club was closed after it had previously had to file for bankruptcy.
Between 1990 and 2003 Sven Väth was part of the resident team of the hr3 Clubnight .
