Harthouse is a German record label that had a major influence on the techno scene, especially in the 1990s . From 1992 to 1997 it was a sub-label of Eye Q Records , from 1998 to 2003 Harthouse was a label of the Under Cover Music Group and from 2004 to 2017 it belonged to the Daredo company from Mannheim. In November 2017, Harthouse was then taken over by UCM.ONE from Berlin.

history

founding

Between summer 1991 and spring 1992 the DJ Sven Väth founded the Eye Q Records label together with his manager Heinz Roth and the techno producer Matthias Hoffmann . Since they received many demo tapes with house and techno music that were too hard for them for the trance- heavy label Eye Q Records, they founded the sub-label Harthouse . It became a platform for unknown and experimental artists. The main person responsible was Sven Väth. Matthias Schindehütte was initially responsible for A&R . From 1995 to 1997 Klaus Löschner (DJ Good Groove ) was label manager. The labels of the records had a sketch taken from a manga on the “other side” (supposedly B-side ) . It can be seen on the Harthouse compilations Chapters 1-7 as a cover motif and was also known as the "Harthouse flag". The distribution was carried out by Harthouse itself. The first edition comprised 2,000 copies.

expansion

The Harthouse releases were very popular with club DJs, and so Harthouse became, alongside Eye Q Records, the most influential label that clearly shaped the sound of Frankfurt in the 1990s . Many releases were played in the former Frankfurt techno club Omen . Numerous well-known music producers were under contract with Harthouse , including Oliver Bondzio , Ramon Zenker , Ralf Hilden Beutel , Gabriel Le Mar , Oliver Lieb and Mike S.

In 1992, the Harthouse UK branch was founded in England . The 1992 track Hardtrance Acperience (HH-008) by Hardfloor reached number 56 in the English charts. In the USA , a distribution contract was signed with Moonshine Records and records were also released there on the Harthouse America label . While there was no success in America, it grew in Europe . Nevertheless, the British offshoot of the label was only very short-lived.

Harthouse Frankfurt was the German branch from 1992 to 1997. Until then there are 119 12 "single releases (mostly in small editions between 1000 and 2000, but many also released on CD), 24 albums (vinyl and CD), 17 10" single releases, one 7 "single release, and various foreign and special releases appeared, many releases are now rarities and are sold dearly among fans.

In 1996 the 100th Harthouse single (HH-100) was released as a 2x12 "vinyl edition, designed by the artist George Dare. A large label tour Harthouse 100 tour across Europe was organized, including at Omen Frankfurt Harthouse DJs such as Frank De Wulf , Toni Rios or live acts such as Alter Ego and Patrick Lindsey as well as George Dare, who installed the visual projections in the respective clubs.

bankruptcy

1997 Väth parted ways with his old business partners and the labels. Eye Q Records and Harthouse moved to Berlin , where they soon had to file for bankruptcy. Many artists received no more money for their publications or were provided with tiny amounts. Mismanagement is believed to be the cause of the Harthouse demise.

First resuscitation

In 1998, the music company Under Cover Music Group ( UCMG for short ) announced that it had bought the naming rights to Harthouse and the licensing rights to some old publications. A little later the compilation Retrospective appeared . This was particularly well received by the Harthouse artists, as it gave them the chance to earn something from their productions after all . The A&R work was done by the music producers Ramon Zenker and Oliver Bondzio - better known as the techno project Hardfloor . The first new Harthouse release, Hardfloor will Survive , appeared in September . In the period that followed, new singles and a handful of albums were released about twice a year, and although some releases were relatively successful, Harthouse never really got into the conversation. In the summer of 2003, UCMG finally filed for bankruptcy, and so the “new” Harthouse came to an end for the time being this year.

Second resuscitation

In the winter of 2004 the music company Daredo announced in Mannheim that it would publish new Harthouse releases in spring 2005 by taking over the naming rights to Harthouse . At the end of 2004 the official website at www.harthouse.com went online again. Since then, new vinyls and CDs have been released regularly. Some of the tracks produced are only available as MP3s . At the beginning of 2007 Harthouse took the name Harthouse Frankfurt back into the repertoire as a sub-category of Harthouse , alongside Harthouse Mannheim and Harthouse Digital .

Berlin time

With the takeover of UCM.ONE based in Berlin in November 2017, the label also moved to Berlin . Since then the additions "Mannheim" and "Digital" have been deleted from the name , so that from this time on the label is again called Harthouse without any additions.
