The third room is a techno project by the Göttingen- based producer Andreas Krüger .

Emergence

After Andreas Krüger presented Sven Väth with a demo tape at a techno party in the early 1990s , he quickly signed a contract with Harthouse's record label . When Harthouse filed for bankruptcy in 1997, The Third Room moved to the record multinational Virgin . In 2005 he finally came to the independent label Resopal Schallware .

description

Stylistically, has the third space changed over time to lose its distinctiveness without however. Often used elements are emphatically short snare drums, complex hi-hat structures on eighth and sixteenth notes, distinctive bass lines, a multitude of small rhythm variations, creaking noises and the use of a long flanger effect. Based on this foundation, Krüger constructs music that primarily consists of unusual sounds and tones.

Influences from progressive techno , acid , goa and trance dominated the debut album . The individual tracks had long running times (up to over 10 minutes) and contained some psychedelic-melodic elements. With the Elektro Disco EP , the music became a little less harmonious, but more hypnotic and technoid. The style was refined and developed up to the album Raumgleiter (1998), then followed with the album Distance, a clear change in style towards many playful electronic elements. With Klubraum a return to the progressive club techno sound followed.

Live performances

Live performance in 2006

The third room has become famous within the techno scene above all through the live performances (live acts ) that Krüger does together with Ralf Uhrlandt . In contrast to many other formations of this music genre, Krüger and Uhrlandt directly influence the raw data, which is sent from the two Apple laptops as audio data to the mixer or as MIDI data to the various synthesizers. As with a “conventional” band, every performance is different and improvisation is an important part. They have been repeatedly recognized as one of the best German live acts by various scene magazines.

Studio

Krüger works alone in the studio. His preferred devices are analog synthesizers and modular systems (such as the "A-100" from Doepfer ). In addition to the project The Third Room , Andreas Krüger also produced at times under other pseudonyms, e.g. B. as Dr. DNA , Plastic + Elastic , The Star of Africa or Perpetuum Mobile .
