Acid Techno (usually just called "Acid") is a style of music and a sub-category of Techno .

History and characteristics

After the acid house wave subsided at the end of the 80s and techno emerged, a further development of the old acid sound spread in 1991 and 1992 : acid techno (and a short time later acid trance ). The basic structures were identical to techno, but the main theme was each exclusively on the typical sound of the Roland TB-303 - synthesizer fixed. Most productions only included four-four time with a bass drum on every quarter, hi-hats on the eighth notes in between, a snare or hand claps on every other quarter, rhythm additions with toms or rimshots and one, two or even three central acid sequences. These acid sequences were changed in the course of the track with the modulation options of the TB-303 and varied from deep hum to high, screeching and biting sounds. Especially the smacking noise by revving up the cut-off arises knob, evokes an association with Acid (English for " acid ").

The peak of the acid techno wave was reached in 1994 . Many of the elements typical of this musical style can still be found today in techno , house and trance productions .
