Handclap

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Handclap (Engl. Clapping ) is in the music as a percussion used element. Its typical musical function is similar to that of a snare drum , but differs from it by the sound that is based on the clapping of two hands .

The handclap is widely used as a stylistic device in electronic dance music - not only, but especially in house - and is often one of the most important rhythm components there. It is usually generated synthetically with drum computers such as the Roland TR-808 or the TR-909 , but also with the help of samples .

The handclap also exists in other genres, for example in pop , jazz or funk , there often also as real hand clapping (heard among other things in the "Hand Clapping Song" of the funk band The Meters from 1970; synthetically generated in the song " HandClap "by the pop band Fitz and the Tantrums from 2016).
