Fitz and the Tantrums
Fitz and the Tantrums is an American neo-soul band from Los Angeles .
Band history
The band began as a project by Michael Fitzpatrick, who had bought a decommissioned church organ from the 1960s and wanted to use it to record a self-written solo EP . At first he was only looking for the support of his school friend James King, who had mastered numerous instruments and was supposed to complement brass sounds. More musicians were added until the band Fitz and the Tantrums was formed. The first joint EP Songs for a Break Up, Vol. 1 was released in 2009. The following year they made a name for themselves with their appearance on South by Southwest and released their debut album Pickin 'Up the Pieces on the Dangerbird label . With that they hit the US album charts straight away . The album song Moneygrabber was part of the soundtrack of the film Kill the Boss and became a radio hit. At the end of 2013 it was used again in a vodka advertisement and was awarded gold for half a million units sold four years after it was published .
They had previously received gold for Out of My League . The song was used in the first episode of the Camp series and reached number 1 on the alternative charts. It was the pre-release for the second album More Than Just a Dream . Tony Hoffer had produced it and the Elektra label released it in June 2014. It put them at number 26 on the album charts. The second single The Walker was her second number one hit in the alternative charts and her first song in the official single charts . The song was used several times in advertising, including one in an Oscar television trailer and a Walmart campaign, and even became a million seller.
Several well-known producers such as Joel Little and Ricky Reed were hired for the third album. The album was the band's name as the title and appeared in early summer 2016. It exceeded the chart positions of its predecessor and had to handclap another gold single. The song was the second hit in the single charts and came in at number 2 on the rock charts. After being used as the title song of the 11th season of the RTL jungle camp , it also entered the charts in Germany and Austria.
