Life

Christian August Krieg, the son of a tailor, first attended grammar school in Weißenfels and studied theology in Leipzig from April 1761 . On 25 Jul 1776 he was appointed cantor of the Nikolaikirche in Luckau . Thomaskantor Johann Friedrich Doles recommended him with the following lines:

“During his time here, the studiosus Herr Krieg made such proficiency in science as well as in music that he can preside over an office that requires music and science; Therefore I have no hesitation in recommending him to all high patrons and patrons, and I have the most certain hope that he will be able to render good and useful service to the youth with his talents. Leipzig d. April 23, 1776. "

At the end of 1793 he moved to Dresden Neustadt as deputy cantor of the Dreikönigskirche and teacher of the Dreikönigschule . When the old cantor Gottlieb August Buschmann died there in 1799, Krieg succeeded him.

In 1798 he had applied in vain to succeed Johann Christoph Kessel as cantor in Freiberg .

Works

For the performance, Krieg changed many church texts and sometimes added new texts to the church pieces. There are several manuscripts of music by his hand in the Luckau library.
