Amnesia (discotheque)
The Amnesia is one of the world's largest and most famous nightclubs . It is located near Sant Rafel , halfway on the main road between Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni de Portmany on the Spanish island of Ibiza .
history
The club was founded in 1970 . Over the years many famous artists such as Bob Marley , Led Zeppelin , David Bowie , Madonna , Bruce Springsteen and Prince have appeared. The switch to electronic dance music came in the early 1990s with the breakthrough of house / techno in Europe.
Today the discotheque has a capacity of over 5000 people and is divided into two areas: Main Room and Terrace . In the main room usually is trance -music played, depending on the show as well as Techno or House . The terrace, on the other hand, is usually limited to house and electro .

Compulsory break in 2007
In June 2007, the Amnesia hit the headlines after it was closed by the Spanish authorities for an initial month. The "Bora Bora" bar and the " DC-10 " were even prescribed two-month compulsory breaks. The reason for this lies in a change in the anti-drug strategy of the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, which has now apparently decided on a policy of zero tolerance in view of the increasing drug excesses of the Ibizan party scene . Investigations by the Guardia Civil have revealed evidence of tacit tolerance of drug use and trafficking by the club's operators, which has led to appropriate court closings.
The club owners are then charged with arbitrariness, as similar offenses are common in other discos on the island. It remains to be assumed that the Spanish authorities want to set an example here in order to give the drug scene in Ibiza a general warning.
