Carl Cox (* 29. July 1962 in Barbados ) is one of the most successful Techno - DJs and in 1997 with the title best DJ in the world by the British magazine DJ Mag Award, which is awarded among the world's most successful DJs.

Career

Cox grew up listening to the music of Maceo Parker and James Brown . The funk rhythms influenced him significantly. He began to experiment with turntables and records at an early age . When the first wave of hip-hop came from the USA in the late 1970s , Cox joined in, but then switched more and more to electronic music and finally to techno in the course of the 1980s . His trademark as a DJ is that he usually uses three turntables at his gigs instead of the usual two.

For several years now, Carl Cox has also been running its own events. In the summer season on Ibiza he played on Tuesday evening in the Space disco until the club closed in 2016 , when he invited various DJs.

His mix album FACT (released in October 1995) is considered the first mix CD by a DJ and has sold over 200,000 copies worldwide. This earned him silver in England for the best-selling underground dance album of the era. As a result, he rose from an English rave DJ to an internationally known techno and dance DJ. In 2006 a new edition of the mix album was released as a Gold Edition. Cox plays club owner Pablo Hassan in the British film Human Traffic .

On November 3, 2007, during a performance by Cox at a club in Caracas , Venezuela, a shooting took place - four people were killed and five injured. A video of what happened and Cox's reactions was posted on the Internet. He also expressed his concern on his website.

Carl Cox Motor Sport

Since 2013 Cox has been running the “Carl Cox Motor Sport” racing team named after him, which sponsors Michael Dunlop at the Tourist Trophy, among others.

In 2017 Dunlop won the most important “Senior Race” on the Cox-Suzuki and set the fastest time of the week.
