John Digweed (* 1967 in Hastings , England ) is one of the most successful DJs and music producers in the field of progressive trance and house music .

biography

As a teenager he already practiced the DJ craft at home. In Hastings ( England ) he organized the successful party series Bedrock Nights . But when he moved to London in 1987 , most of his club applications went unanswered. It wasn't until 1992 that Renaissance showed interest and booked him. His style did not correspond to the then common idea of house and was referred to as "Epic House" in the media. In 1995 Digweed mixed the first Renaissance compilation with DJ Sasha , which became a milestone in the genre. At the same time, he published his own productions under the Bedrock label . The track For What You Dream Of was included in the soundtrack of the film Trainspotting and reached the top 40 of the British music charts.

The duo Sasha & Digweed became a household name in the house scene and as resident DJs in New York's Twilo Club they were able to consolidate their fame worldwide, also thanks to the accompanying and successful mix compilations Northern Exposure . In the following years there were regular events under the title Bedrock Night at Heaven's Club in London , which became known in the scene across Europe.

In 1999 Digweed released his second Global Underground Mix CD (recorded at a party in Hong Kong ) and remixes for Danny Tenaglia and Terminalhead . With the production Heaven Scent he had one of the biggest club hits of the year.

In 2000, Digweed had a guest role in the movie Groove , in which he impersonated himself.

In 2005 he reached sixth place in the Top 100 DJ Poll of the English magazine DJ Mag . In 2001, he already achieved first place in the same poll, making him the best DJ in the world .

Digweed has its own weekly radio show "Transitions" on the British radio station Kiss100 . The show established itself as one of the most successful dance shows in England and is broadcast across the world via the Internet. The two-hour show consists of half a set by John Digweed himself and the other half a set by a guest DJ. Among others , big names in the scene like Deep Dish , Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren have been guest DJs on the show.
