The wiser tilts (in short "DKKN") was a late night - talk show of the private television station Tele 5 . It was moderated by Wigald Boning , the idea going back to Hugo Egon Balder .

After the ninth edition (which was to be followed by three more), the broadcaster canceled the show prematurely due to low audience ratings.

Hugo Egon Balder had the idea for the show back in 1993 and announced it in an interview with the German tabloid daily tz in 2009, but did not think that the show would ever be seen on German television. “It will be like Werner Höfer , only weird,” he said.

Content and concept

The program was broadcast live in the “Zwick” pub on Hamburg-St. Pauli , Balder has been a partner there since 2010.

Similar to Ina's night, there were discussions with prominent guests at a table in the bar. Hugo Egon Balder took on the role of pub host , while Wigald Boning, as moderator, and regular Hella von Sinnen talked to the guests. For the second season, Desiree Nick came as another regular guest. Topics were discussed that were topical in Germany and about what information had been obtained from newspapers . Meanwhile, the bar host Balder made sure that the guests' glasses were always filled with alcoholic beverages . First and foremost, it shouldn't be about drinking, but rather a cozy evening with “friends” to build up a relaxed atmosphere and possibly bring one or the other truth to light. The concept of the show was also explained by Wigald Boning's greeting, which was always formulated in the same way, announcing it as “The show in which prominent contemporaries talk about topics that move Germany under the influence of alcohol”. In addition, Boning's show was always referred to as a "TV experiment". This was based on the fact that initially only a season with 6 episodes was planned. In the second season, each episode also included musical interludes by Hugo Egon Balder or one of the guests.

The first episode of the program was interrupted by 3 commercials. In episode 2 there were only 2 commercial breaks and in episode 3 one. In the fourth episode, no advertising blocks were used. Instead, two “breaks” were inserted, during which the live broadcast continued, but some guests briefly left the table. Kai Blasberg , the managing director of Tele 5 , used these breaks to speak. In the 5th and 6th edition there was an advertising break and no other breaks. From episode 7 onwards, they returned to the scheme with 2 advertising blocks.

Even before the first broadcast, the concept was criticized by the chairmen of the Kreuzbund because it would play down the alcoholic disease or run counter-productively to the abstinence movement . The federal drug commissioner , Marlene Mortler from the CSU , has also criticized the Tele-5 drinking show as trivializing alcohol consumption.

The reviews after the first broadcast were hardly positive. Moderator Wigald Boning was certified as having a lack of assertiveness and regular guest Hella von Sinnen entertained the participants almost alone.

“ The wiser one tips over is Balder's dream project, which he peddled for years before Tele 5 took it. The result, however, is more sobering than amusing due to the lack of height. Audience ratings

With the general audience, the first episode started on Easter Monday , April 6, 2015 with 240,000 viewers and thus got off to a good start for the station in the late evening. The market share was 1.0 percent and was a good bit higher in the target group of 14 to 49 year olds. With a market share of 1.5 percent, they were well above the broadcaster average.
